Beware! This Grey’s Anatomy article discloses details about episode 15 of season 21.
The characters in Grey’s Anatomy enjoy a brief respite from drama in an enjoyable, less intense episode. However, the fifteenth episode of season 21 advances one major plot point as Lucas discovers if he’ll need to redo his intern year.
The resolution unfolds when Catherine lends a hand at Grey Sloan clinic, enabling Lucas to display his abilities as her intern. Simultaneously, Blue and Simone work on resolving their roommate disagreements following Mika’s departure, while Taryn and Ben find unity assisting a young patient. Lastly, Jules and Winston join forces after a superhero-costumed window washer accidentally breaks through the window in the pediatric unit.
Lucas’ Storyline Is A Great Example Of Grey’s Anatomy Subverting Expectations
It Also (Finally) Shows Off Catherine’s Softer Side
Delving into Lucas’ narrative involving Catherine, I was convinced he’d make an attempt to dazzle her with an extravagant surgery. Almost exactly, this is what transpires when he discovers a novel surgical method for his patient and gets approval from Bailey to participate. However, the series sensibly opts for a more nuanced route, as Lucas realizes his young, female patient is uneasy about him performing the surgery, leading him to hand over the case to Bailey instead.
In a surprising twist that achieves its purpose, Lucas’ insight into his patient leaves Catherine impressed, causing her to approve his progress alongside his classmates. Over time, Catherine has been known for her divisive nature on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, but this episode showcases a more compassionate side of her personality, evident in her treatment of both Lucas and the patient.
Several Grey’s Anatomy Characters Bicker, Leading To Some Of The Episode’s Funniest Moments
Blue, Simone, Ben & Taryn All Contribute To The Hour’s Lighter Tone, But Their Storylines Have Surprising Weight
Initially, a disagreement among Taryn, Ben, Blue, and Simone might appear insignificant in terms of their character developments. However, the episode cleverly focuses on the dynamic between Ben and Taryn, offering plenty of amusement – particularly when they don superhero costumes. As their initial excitement fades, it’s hard not to smile. Nevertheless, as the story unfolds, it delves deeper into Ben’s insecurities about his frequent job changes preventing him from forming meaningful connections with his peers, and Taryn expressing her feelings of being overwhelmed since Levi left.
Initially, Blue and Simone’s storyline appears similar to familiar Grey’s Anatomy plots – their disagreement over Meredith’s house is as typical as the series gets. However, it gains more weight when Simone brings up a poignant observation, suggesting that it can be unsettling for a woman to discover an unfamiliar man in her home.
As a movie enthusiast, I must say that the narrative cleverly takes us back into the lives of our beloved characters following Mika’s departure. The plot thickens as Blue eventually concedes to let Lucas return home. However, even Grey’s Anatomy couldn’t resist a hint of predictability in this tale; when Lucas broaches the subject of their future together, Simone surprisingly falters, leaving us hanging on what could be next.
Jules & Winston Continue To Prove They’re A Great Duo
However, Grey’s Anatomy May Be Taking The Characters In An Unnecessary Direction
I’ve found myself particularly fond of Jules and Winston as a mentor-mentee duo this season, so it was great to see them working together again this week. However, from their scene on the roof, it appears the show might be steering their relationship towards a more personal path, potentially setting up a romantic angle. Despite their strong professional connection, I can’t help but feel that a romance could come off as contrived at this stage, given the challenges they’ve faced in their respective love lives.
I too appreciate Jules being single, dedicating herself to her career and friendships – Grey’s Anatomy often switches her between relationships rather swiftly. Although her bond with Mika has been the strongest thus far, a hasty departure from that relationship weakens its significance. However, the series could benefit from a more gradual romantic development at present, and Winston and Jules might make an excellent pair for such a romance.
