Grey’s Anatomy season 21 casts Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist star as gay hospital chaplain

As someone who’s been hooked on Grey’s Anatomy since its inception, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement with each new addition to the cast. Michael Thomas Grant, fresh from his stint in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, is stepping into the shoes of the new chaplain, James.

Over nearly two decades, I’ve been captivated by the ongoing journey of Grey’s Anatomy, and it seems like the show has no intention of slowing down. Constantly introducing fresh plotlines and characters keeps the story engaging and exciting for me.

The newest addition to the beloved ABC series is actor Michael Thomas Grant, famous from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

According to Deadline’s report, Grant will portray the role of a newly appointed gay chaplain named James at the hospital. The character description highlights his warm personality, extensive training, and deep spirituality, which enable him to feel at ease and self-assured in any scenario.

Sounds like he’ll be a positive addition to the cast, then.

While the role of a chaplain may appear smooth-sailing on the surface, the text hints that James’ personal life presents challenges as well. He stands at a crucial junction in his life, willing to embrace love and make significant spiritual steps.

Will those leaps of faith pay off?

Many will recognize Grant from his role as Leif in the highly praised series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, which spanned over two seasons and bagged a Primetime Emmy award. Additionally, it led to a holiday-themed spin-off movie titled Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas.

Among Zoey’s (Jane Levy) peers in the coding field, Leif began working on the same day as her character, yet swiftly established a formidable presence at SPRQ Point Watch, leaving Zoey striving to win his favor.

It remains to be seen if he’ll make as big an impression on his coworkers at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as he did before.

In the latest development, Grant is set to become part of the ongoing medical series, filling the void left by Jake Borelli who is stepping down from his character, Dr. Levi Schmitt, in the forthcoming season.

In response to announcing his role on Instagram, the 30-year-old expressed his enthusiasm by posting on his Instagram story: “Hello, that’s me! Can’t wait to be part of this team.”

Grey’s Anatomy seasons 1 to 20 are available to stream on Disney Plus.
