Grey’s Anatomy’s Camilla Luddington Teases Season 22

Nobody knows where Grey’s Anatomy might end up—including Camilla Luddington

Following the thrilling and intense climax of season 21 in the Shonda Rhimes series, the 41-year-old actress, who has portrayed Dr. Jo Wilson since season nine, openly expressed her eagerness to discover what happens at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital next season, as she too is curious about its future developments.

At the Motion Picture and Television Fund Gala in Los Angeles on June 22, Camilla candidly told TopMob News, “I’m at a loss for words,” explaining that she has already sought answers from showrunner Meg Marinis. She added, “I asked her just about everything because of the huge blast we saw last season, and I still don’t have a clue.” (Stay tuned to TopMob News tonight, June 23 at 11 p.m., for more insights from Camilla.)

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are biting their nails in anticipation as they wait to find out the outcome for Jo’s romantic interest, Link (Chris Carmack), following the second explosion at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, orchestrated by an angry patient. Even the show’s lead actress, Camilla, is unsure about the fate of her on-screen spouse, so it’s safe to assume that the cast members are just as clueless.

Previously, Camilla had shared with TopMob News that she’s quite curious when it comes to uncovering future plotlines. In fact, she was among the first to discover a character’s comeback that sent shockwaves through the entire cast, particularly Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), causing chaos: McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey).

Previously, she informed TopMob that she hadn’t realized some actors were unaware of their 2020 cameo in the series’ 17th season. She had assumed everyone was aware, but it seems not everyone was.

Regarding Link’s potential outcome, it’s worth noting that Camilla has endured deep sorrow similar to this if he doesn’t survive. To put it another way, just as Jo was left by Alex (Justin Chambers) when his character vanished to pursue a romance with Izzy (Katherine Heigl) in season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy.

At that point, Camilla expressed that Jo seems to be gradually recovering from her heartache, but it’s a gradual journey. She also suggested that Jo might be attempting to understand what she requires for herself.

However, although Camilla, who is married to Matthew Alan and has two children, Hayden (8) and Lucas (4), finds her current romantic storyline with Link to be more in line with her character, she is equally eager to see how Jo’s character will develop independently.

As a dedicated follower, I can’t help but feel thrilled at the prospect of portraying this character as a single woman in her new life. I wonder, what does Jo Wilson appear like when she’s single? How about when she might be exploring the dating scene? I’m eager to uncover these aspects and bring them to life on screen, for I am truly excited about playing this role.

Regardless of what happens to Link, there’s still a wealth of memorable characters from the world of Grey’s Anatomy to explore further. Dive in to find out where some of the show’s former cast members have ended up!

In the third season, Burke left Cristina at the altar, vanished afterward, and eventually won a Harper Avery prize elsewhere. Later on, he shifted to Zurich, Switzerland, where he established a high-tech hospital of his own. He married, started a family, and in the tenth season, invited Cristina to manage his hospital upon his retirement since he was retiring.

After reports surfaced that Isaiah Washington used a derogatory term towards co-star T.R. Knight during an on-set argument with Patrick Dempsey, Washington chose to depart from the series. His attempts at defense only exacerbated the situation, eventually leading to his dismissal. Interestingly, it appears there was reconciliation between Washington and ABC, as he was invited back for a second stint in 2014.

What did Washington say about the incident later on? He issued a public apology and admitted in a further statement, “I now recognize that there are personal matters I must confront, and I have sought assistance.

Since leaving “Grey’s Anatomy”, he has taken on roles such as Thelonious Jaha in the TV series “The 100” on The CW, which ended when his character was killed off in season five. After that, he appeared in the critically praised Starz show “P-Valley”.

Izzie Stevens developed cancer, married Alex Karev, beat the cancer but then seemed to vanish during season six. She eventually reappeared and confessed that Seattle didn’t feel like home for her anymore. Later, Alex received divorce papers, and it was later revealed that Izzie secretly had twins by Alex, lives on a ranch in Kansas, and has become a surgical oncologist.

Katherine Heigl’s departure from the show started around 2008 when she chose not to be nominated for an Emmy due to feeling the content wasn’t worthy. By 2010, her character was written off completely. Since then, she has expressed a desire to reprise her role, but creator Shonda Rhimes has shown no interest, stating in 2015 that “I’m done with that story.

Initially a rising star in romantic comedies, Heigl continued to appear in several more romcoms. Later, she transitioned back to television with the series ‘State of Affairs’, followed by ‘Doubt’. More recently, she had a stint on ‘Suits’ and took on the lead role in ‘Firefly Lane’, which concluded in 2023.

In the fourth season, young intern Norman found himself confronting misconceptions about his position because of his mature appearance, being mistaken for an attending instead of an intern. A blunder occurred when he inadvertently informed a patient of her impending death, and later he suffered a stroke. Post-surgery to extract the blood clot, Norman decided he would move departments, opting for psychiatry from then on.

In the show, Sydney temporarily replaced Bailey during her maternity leave and became known for her bubbly personality which often annoyed others. At one stage, she went out on a date with Derek, but later faded from the scene around season four. However, she made a brief return to the series in 2024 for season 21.

Recently, Kali Rocha has been featured on the Disney series “Liv and Maddie” as well as “Man with a Plan”, and she is scheduled to appear in an upcoming episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in 2024.

Among the most heart-wrenching episodes on this list, at the close of season five, George made a fateful decision to join the military as a trauma surgeon. On his way to fulfill this choice, he heroically saved a woman from being run over by a bus, but unfortunately, in doing so, he was struck himself. His injuries were so severe that no one recognized him until he wrote his nickname, “007,” on Meredith’s hand using his finger. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to save him, and George tragically passed away.

Following a series of challenging off-camera periods, including an incident involving Isaiah Washington reportedly using offensive language, Knight faced difficulties with certain storylines for George and grew frustrated due to George’s limited screen time during the early part of season five. As a result, he requested to terminate his contract.

In the year 2017, Knight revisited Shondaland for a stint on The Catch, and since then, he’s been seen on shows like The Good Wife, 11.22.63, Genius, among others. In 2019, he began providing voice-overs for The Bravest Knight, but left the role in 2024. He also worked with Kaley Cuoco on HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant from 2020 to 2022.

He also returned to Grey’s for one episode to meet Meredith during her COVID-19 coma in season 17.

Erica Hahn and Callie Torres were in a promising relationship, but it ended when Erica discovered that Izzie Stevens had severed Denny Duquette’s LVAD wire in an attempt to save his life. The heart that was eventually given to Denny came from one of Erica’s patients. When Callie declined to disclose the situation, Erica ended both the relationship and her job in the early part of season five.

Brooke Smith made appearances in several shows like Bosch, Bates Motel, Supergirl, The Good Doctor, Chicago Med, and The Good Fight, as well as the 2019 movie Bombshell.

Most recently, she had arcs in Ryan Murphy‘s Grotesquerie, The Recruit and The Hunting Party

In the sixth season, we noticed Ryan, the intern, went missing, while Brandon Scott has recently taken on roles in shows like “Dead To Me” on Netflix, “13 Reasons Why”, “This Is Us”, and “The Good Doctor”.

Despite the frequent turmoil that many Grey’s Anatomy interns seem prone to, Megan might opt for the scalpel instead. She found herself in a complicated love situation involving Steve and Pierce: she was dating Pierce, but ended up sleeping with Steve, which led to Pierce wanting to harm Steve. Later, Megan became pregnant by Steve, eventually married him, and hasn’t been seen on the show since season six following Derek Shepherd’s decision to rehire her.

Molly Kidder has taken on several acting roles since her work on ‘Grey’s’, such as a guest appearance on ‘Outsourced’ in 2010 and some independent films. Additionally, she made an appearance as an extra in ‘Ghosts’ in the year 2025.

In the TV series, Joe Williamson, who was once part of the love triangle involving Megan, Pierce, and Steve, was let go during a round of layoffs and departed in season six. Since then, he has made appearances on shows like “Here and Now” and the 2019 movie “Ford v Ferrari,” starring alongside Christian Bale and Matt Damon.

Steve found himself at the opposite end of a work-place romance triangle, ultimately tying the knot with Megan and becoming a parent. Despite facing job cuts, he managed to hold on until season eight; however, since then, he has not reappeared on screen.

Mark Saul has made guest appearances on various TV shows following his enigmatic disappearance from Grey’s, including Franklin & Bash, Mom, The Great Indoors, Grace & Frankie, Modern Family, and I Think You Should Leave.

In the merge with Mercy West during season six, nurse Olivia lost her job. However, she briefly reappeared in season 14 when her son accidentally ingested a toy while she was visiting her parents in Seattle. Notably, Alex, who previously infected her with syphilis, handled her son’s treatment. During this time, Olivia also had ample opportunity to converse with Jo, Alex’s then-fiancée.

Since her departure from Grey’s Anatomy in 2009, Sarah Utterback has made guest appearances on various television shows, such as Reception and Mysteries of Laura. In 2024, she also played a minor role in the series 9-1-1.

Previously unaccounted for intern Graciella was spotted during the season six hospital shooting, but actress Gloria Garayua has been consistently busy. Her recent work includes an arc on “How to Get Away with Murder” and guest spots on “S.W.A.T”, “The Good Doctor”, “American Housewife”, “Animal Kingdom”, “Snowfall”, “Criminal Minds”, “NCIS: LA”, “Anger Management”, “Bones”, and the 2019 miniseries “Reckoning”. She also portrayed Rona in a 2024 episode of “Tracker”.

In season six, Nora became the unfortunate victim when Gary Clark, armed with a gun, aimed at Derek and instead ended up firing, fatally wounding her with a bullet to the head.

Nora was the one who suffered first as a result of Gary Clark bringing a gun to the hospital and attempting to kill Derek in season six; she lost her life instantly following a fatal shot to the head.

Nora Zehetner made guest appearances on Mad Men following her departure from Grey’s Anatomy, and more recently has been seen on Designated Survivor and the 2019 series The Right Stuff. In 2025, she played Melissa in Grosse Point Garden Society.

During the filming of season six, I unfortunately met an untimely end. Unlike other deaths on set, mine was prolonged as I found myself trapped in a room alongside Mandy Moore’s character and Bailey. In a chilling turn of events, I was shot at point-blank range. Despite Bailey’s valiant efforts to save me, the elevators malfunctioned during the evacuation, sealing my fate.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Robert Baker has been thriving, gracing our screens on Riverdale, Modern Family, The Originals, and more recently as Otis Graves on Supergirl. In the future, 2025 to be precise, he reprised his role in a medical drama called St. Denis Medical, stepping back into the world of healthcare once again.

As a devoted admirer, I must share my take on an intriguing turn of events: OBGYN Lucy seized an extraordinary opportunity in Africa that had been intended for Alex, primarily due to the fact that our mutual friend hadn’t discussed his potential move with her. Consequently, she chose to relocate to Africa instead and has since remained out of reach, post-season seven.

Currently, Rachel Taylor is predominantly recognized for her role as Jessica Jones’ friend Trish in the Netflix series “Jessica Jones” and “The Defenders”. Additionally, she made an appearance in a 2024 episode of the show “Hacks”.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but reminisce about Addison, the once estranged wife of Derek who transformed into a beloved character worthy of her own spinoff. Remember her during season seven when she graced our screens as a regular on Grey’s Anatomy, especially in that intriguing musical episode where she heroically saved Callie after her car accident? She also made memorable appearances, like the 2012 episode where Meredith imagined her mother was still alive and happily married to Richard, while Derek and Addison were yet to find their happy ending. Fast forward to 2023, she returned once more for an enchanting arc that left us craving more.

She ended Private Practice married to Jake (Benjamin Bratt) with a son, Henry.

She subsequently made an appearance in the series ‘Fargo’, starred in the brief-running sitcom ‘Bad Judge’, portrayed a mourning mother in ’13 Reasons Why’, and played a role in the termination of the world in ‘The Umbrella Academy’. Additionally, she is currently featured on the 2020 program ‘Emily in Paris’ and made an appearance in a 2025 episode of ‘Optics’.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Lexie, Meredith’s spirited half-sister, met an untimely end in one of the most emotionally charged storylines the show has ever produced – the plane crash. Tragically, she didn’t survive the journey back to the hospital (originally known as Seattle Grace) after being trapped under a piece of the wreckage while her beloved, Mark Sloan, mourned her loss. During Meredith’s coma due to COVID-19, Lexie and Mark reappeared, suggesting that they had reconnected in the afterlife.

Actress Chyler Leigh made an appearance in a series titled “Taxi Brooklyn,” which boasted a humorous name. Later, she assumed the role of the tough Alex Danvers on “Supergirl.” Since 2023, her acting skills have been showcased as Kat Landry in Hallmark’s production “The Way Home.

In the eighth season, Mark (known as McSteamy) didn’t perish instantly in the plane crash; instead, he was transported back to the hospital where he survived for a few days despite his critical injuries. Later, the hospital was renamed in honor of both him and Lexie, following the decision made by the survivors of the plane crash who had pooled their lawsuit winnings to purchase it. This gesture implied that Mark had reunited with Lexie after they both passed away, as he paid a visit to Meredith during her coma.

Eric Dane departed from his previous show to take the lead role in TNT’s “The Last Ship,” which concluded after five seasons in November 2018. Currently, he is acting alongside Zendaya on HBO’s series “Euphoria,” set for its much-anticipated third season.

In April 2025, the actor announced that he had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which is more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Do you recall the OGYN resident that Jo dated during season nine? Their relationship ended dramatically when he discovered secrets she had kept from him, leading to a violent altercation. This confrontation resulted in Jason suffering head injuries after falling and hitting his head. Alex persuaded him not to press charges against Jo, and since then, he has not been seen on the show.

As a lifestyle expert looking back at my acting journey, I’ve had the privilege to bring characters to life across various networks. After making a mark on The CW with “The Originals,” I moved on to TV Land for “Younger,” followed by a stint on ABC’s “For the People.” Subsequently, I joined the cast of NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” More recently, I had the pleasure of returning to a familiar face in a 2022 episode of “Legacies.

In the tenth season, peculiar intern Heather met her untimely demise amidst a massive storm. Tragically, she lost her life after receiving an electric shock while attempting to aid Richard Webber.

Tina Majorino most recently appeared on CBS’ Scorpion and an episode of The Good Doctor.

Dr. Herman transitioned into an exceptionally rigorous mentor in fetal surgery for Dr. Herman in Arizona, yet she appeared much more understanding when Dr. Herman found out about Nicole’s large, incurable brain tumor. Amelia successfully removed the tumor, but eventually, Dr. Herman lost her sight and departed during season 11. However, she came back in season 14 to help Dr. Herman leave the show by providing grant money for her to establish a women’s health center in New York City.

In 2016, Geena Davis appeared in the Fox show “The Exorcist”, followed by her reappearance on “Grey’s”. More recently, she has been a regular cast member in Netflix’s “GLOW” and the animated revival of “She-Ra”. Nowadays, her primary focus is on producing, overseeing projects like “Mission Unstoppable With Miranda Cosgrove”.

After the plane crash, Cristina Yang endured a prolonged struggle to fully heal. Later, she found out that she couldn’t win the Harper Avery award at her current hospital and came to terms with the possibility of moving on. Her former lover, Preston Burke, then extended an invitation for her to manage a top-notch hospital he had established in Zurich, allowing him to retire with his family. In season 10, she bid farewell following a heartfelt dance party with Meredith before setting off to Switzerland.

At present, Sandra Oh is making significant waves in television stardom. She’s captivating audiences as Eve in the highly praised BBC America series “Killing Eve,” a role that earned her a Golden Globe. Similar to Geena Davis, she can also be seen in a recurring role on Netflix’s “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.” Additionally, she provides voice acting for a character within Robert Kirkman’s animated series, “Invincible.

Initially an overconfident intern, Shane later became a full-resident and worked excessively, almost burning himself out. Despite this, he grew fond of Cristina and requested the opportunity to accompany her to Zurich, which he eventually did.

Gaius Charles, famously known for his role as Smash Williams in Friday Night Lights, has also acted in shows like Aquarius and Taken. More recently, he made an appearance on The Walking Dead: Dead City.

During several challenging seasons, Derek Shepherd accepted a position working for former President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., inviting Meredith and their family to join him. However, she declined, leading them to live apart for some time. Eventually, he chose to rectify the situation by returning home to perform his duties remotely.

In the same vein as their renewed joy in season 11, he found himself heading to resolve outstanding matters when he stumbled upon a severe car crash. He spent countless hours tending to the injured victims, but as soon as he climbed into his vehicle, a truck struck him. The medical team at the hospital where the ambulance transported him were not fully equipped for trauma care and neglected to perform a head CT scan, ultimately resulting in his demise.

Patrick Dempsey announced that he parted ways from the series due to finding it challenging to maintain engaging storylines and his desire for more time with his loved ones. After departing from Grey’s, he has appeared in films such as Bridget Jones’ Baby, The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair miniseries, the show Devils, and commercials reminding audiences of his past role as a TV doctor. Currently, he is starring in Dexter: Original Sin.

He shockingly returned to Grey’s for a series of dream sequences in season 17.

Leah Murphy, the hard-luck resident, experienced numerous trials before her dismissal during season 10 due to her unsuitability for a surgical career. To everyone’s surprise, she reappeared in season 13 to collaborate with Maggie. However, as abruptly as she had returned, she vanished once more from the series a few episodes later.

Tessa Ferrer was featured in the Hulu adaptation of World War II miniseries “Catch-22” alongside George Clooney in 2019, as well as in the movie “Grotesquerie,” which premiered in 2024.

Callie decided to depart from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital when Penny, her somewhat contentious partner, received an exclusive scholarship in New York. Despite losing a heartbreaking custody battle with Arizona, she had planned to stay in Seattle. However, at the end of season 12, Arizona experienced a change of heart and assisted Callie in leaving Seattle with their daughter Sofia.

Sara Ramirez departed to work on a new job for CBS’ show “Madame Secretary.” Since then, they have portrayed the controversial character Che Diaz in HBO’s “Sex and the City” spinoff titled “And Just Like That.” In 2024, they lent their voice to Amber in the animated series “Velma.

In my expert opinion as a lifestyle guide, my stint at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital was nothing short of turbulent. From the get-go, I stepped into the shoes of Callie’s new partner, carrying the weight of being one of the doctors linked to Derek’s untimely demise. To make matters worse, I found myself reporting to a Meredith who seemed perpetually displeased.

Then, when an opportunity for a high-profile position in New York City presented itself, Callie and I decided to seize it. Little did we know that our decision would ignite the contentious custody battle between Callie and Arizona. As things currently stand, Callie and I have parted ways (which explains Arizona’s relocation to NYC), a relationship that, in hindsight, appeared destined for failure from the very beginning.

Later on, Samantha Sloyan gained fame for her role as Leigh in The Haunting of Hill House, and also appeared in series like SEAL Team and The Rookie. In 2025, she returned to the hospital setting by joining the staff at The Pitt.

In Season 13, Minnick stepped in as Richard Webber’s replacement in mentoring the residents, but her strict adherence to rules and disregard for personal relationships made everyone dislike her. This led to Meredith getting suspended, and Minnick was eventually dismissed when she failed to inform the police that a resident was missing during a fire. This oversight nearly cost Stephanie’s life.

Later on, Marika Dominczyk teamed up with ABC for the brief run of “Whiskey Cavalier,” where she starred alongside her spouse, who is also a former cast member of “Grey’s Anatomy,” namely Scott Foley.

At the conclusion of season 13, Stephanie opted to venture out and discover fresh experiences, having survived a fire ordeal after enduring months of fatigue and sorrow following the demise of her boyfriend Kyle, who was portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama.

Jerrika Hinton made an appearance on the brief HBO drama “Here and Now” in 2018, and additionally joined the cast of the Amazon series “Hunters,” portraying a character who hunts Nazis. In the year 2024, she was seen as Lycia in “The Accused.

In the early part of season 14, Nathan chose to depart from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital because his long-held wish was fulfilled when his fiancée, Megan Hunt, who had been held captive for a decade, finally returned. With the child she had adopted during her time abroad, they decided to relocate to Los Angeles, thereby ending Nathan’s promising relationship with Meredith. However, it provided a delightful conclusion for Riggs.

Martin Henderson, interestingly known for his role in Britney Spears’ “Toxic” music video, will continue to appear in the TV series ‘Virgin River’ up until 2024.
