Eric Dane is opening up about life with ALS.
Two months following the announcement of his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s disease,” the former Grey’s Anatomy star will discuss his current state in an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America. In a sneak peek of their conversation, scheduled for June 16, he shares his hopefulness about what lies ahead.
In the June 12 preview, Eric puts it simply, saying, “I have a feeling there’s more to my tale yet to unfold. I believe there’s still much more of me left to show.
In other words, he fully understands the challenges that accompany his health struggle, and each morning serves as a stark reminder that he is going through this ordeal.
Despite battling ALS, Eric’s focus remains firmly on the present, a timeframe that encompasses his ongoing contributions to the production of Euphoria, as the third season is now being filmed.
He shared with People in a recent interview that he considers himself lucky to be still able to work and is excited to get back on the set of Euphoria starting next week.
The actor, known for portraying Cal Jacobs on HBO’s series, is not alone in his journey. He has his family by his side, which comprises of his wife Rebecca Gayheart – who recently withdrew the divorce petition filed in 2018 in March – and their two children, Billie (age 15) and Georgia (age 13). Interestingly, just a day before Eric announced his diagnosis, Rebecca publicly highlighted their strong connection.
In an interview with TopMob News on April 9, Rebecca expressed, “We’re extremely close friends, almost like family. We make excellent co-parents, and I believe we’ve cracked the code for maintaining a strong family bond, which is benefiting our children immensely and us too.
She added that at the end of the day, their troubles were “just a season.”
She explained that it’s significant not to view a relationship that concludes as a disaster. Instead, she believes it’s just a chapter in life. It wasn’t a failure; it was an immense triumph. After all, they were married for 15 years and have two wonderful children together, which makes their relationship a success in her eyes. That’s how she chooses to perceive it.

Previously on Bachelor Nation, one of its members revealed that he had to visit the hospital because of intense back pain, which he described as creeping on hands and knees due to the worsening condition that occurred during a recreational vehicle journey with a companion.
Currently, there’s a strange sensation from my toes up to my knees, he remarked in an episode of his Trading Secrets podcast on March 2025. “It’s quite peculiar,” he added. To give you some context, around two or three weeks ago, I was probably squatting about 295 pounds. Now, I can’t even attempt a single-legged squat; I lose balance and it feels like I’ve suffered a stroke or something similar.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”
In a game played in December 2024, an AHL player got 25 stitches when another player’s skate accidentally sliced him. In her Instagram post, she described an incident where another party accidentally fired a weapon in an unsafe manner and struck her in the face. Quick-thinking Brendan Rooney promptly evaluated her injuries and rushed her to the hospital. She was hit by bullets in five locations, one of which was dangerously close to her right eye.
The former star of “Kim Possible” explained further, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck at the back of my eye and it’s not safe to remove it through surgery right now. My doctors will keep a close watch on me, but I can see fine for now.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being alive, stating, “My affection for my daughters, husband, family, and friends runs incredibly deep.” She further recounted a moment where she felt she was glimpsing her life’s highlights, emphasizing that life is fleeting and encouraging everyone to cherish the people near them by offering hugs whenever possible. Instantly, things can take an unexpected turn.
Despite the internet sometimes being unkind, Amy Schumer is grateful it provided her with valuable insights during a challenging time. In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, she remembered the public reaction to her appearance: “The internet was quite critical after several interviews, and I thought, ‘Alright everyone, calm down,'” she said. However, medical professionals began commenting as well, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. Amy jokingly commented, “I’m getting trolled by doctors?”
After receiving concerns from these medical professionals about potential Cushing syndrome caused by elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections, Amy realized that her own medical history could be the culprit. “I had been receiving steroid injections for scars from my breast reduction and C-section,” she explained. “So, it turns out I developed a condition called Cushing syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known about if not for the intense scrutiny on the internet.”
Now, Amy is simply relieved to know that her health is stable. As she shared in her February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Learning that I had a type of Cushing syndrome that would resolve itself and that I am healthy was the best news imaginable.
In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced one of the most terrifying moments in her life during breakfast with husband Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having symptoms similar to a stroke, but luckily, she was able to communicate this to Justin who took immediate action. As she tried to respond, she found herself unable to speak and her right side of face drooped. Hailey quickly went to the hospital for a check-up where they detected a small blood clot in her brain, known as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further examination revealed that Hailey had a hole in her heart called patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had traveled through this hole into her heart and then escaped to her brain, causing the TIA. Fortunately, she underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling much better.
In the same year as Hailey’s health scare, Justin Bieber also faced a similar challenge. Specifically, in June 2022, he revealed his diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which led to temporary paralysis of parts of his face and necessitated the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour. In an Instagram video, Justin explained that this condition affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing facial paralysis. He noted that he couldn’t blink one eye, smile on one side of his face, or move one nostril. The paralysis made eating more difficult for him, but it eventually subsided. Hailey reported on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better. She added that the unexpected situation was scary, but they were relieved that he would make a full recovery.
Jamie Foxx initially chose to keep quiet about his hospitalization in April 2023, but later shared his experience. In Atlanta one day, he experienced a severe headache and asked for an aspirin, but before getting it, he lost consciousness for 20 days.
Initially examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home, his sister Deidra Dixon then drove him to a hospital where they discovered the cause: a brain bleed leading to a stroke. After undergoing surgery on the 20th day, Foxx woke up on May 4 in a wheelchair unable to walk. He subsequently went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
“All I can say is that I appreciate every prayer,” he said, “because I needed every prayer.
In 2019, Emilia Clarke, famously known for her role in Game of Thrones, penned an essay titled “A Battle for My Life” in The New Yorker. During a gym workout, she experienced severe headaches that led to vomiting and worsening pain, which she later learned was due to damage in her brain.
Subsequently, she was rushed to the hospital for a scan where they discovered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening type of stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, describing the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she also experienced aphasia, speaking nonsense.
A week later, she regained her speech and was discharged from the hospital after a month. However, in 2013, during another brain scan, they found that the growth had doubled in size, requiring another surgery. She shared that the second operation was performed through her skull, and though it was risky, she survived.
Now, Emilia is reportedly in good health, stating that she’s back to 100%.
Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, expresses her gratitude towards her family. This is because when she experienced a severe stroke in January 2024, her loved ones quickly rushed to her aid. As she shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024, she informed them about the stroke and sent them a picture. Everyone immediately came to her rescue.
Due to additional health issues, Cori’s hospital stay was longer than anticipated. She explained, “I could have been discharged after my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t doing well at that time. My kidneys were failing. There was a lot happening.”
Fortunately, today, Cori is recovering well. She added, “I’m doing great now. I just needed to work on regaining some motor skills, but other than that, I was fine.

The actress described it as a time when she experienced hearing loss, fatigue after short walks, and stomach problems with everything she ate. She was diagnosed with a complex set of issues by different doctors, but chose not to disclose the specific condition.
Due to her background in holistic healing, Shailene sought help from both conventional medical professionals and independent healers. This journey towards recovery took approximately ten years. During this time, she also grappled with various mental health challenges such as fear of food due to stomach pain, body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity and uncertainty regarding her body and self-image.
After addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene is now feeling much improved and healthy. She expressed gratitude for having overcome these challenges.
