Grimes Opens Up About Autism and ADHD Diagnosis: Inside Her Revelation

Grimes has renewed clarity about herself.

This year, the artist known as Claire Elise Boucher publicly revealed that she has been diagnosed with ADHD and autism. She also criticized certain mental health-related accounts on social media, labeling them as potentially harmful or misleading information.

On March 22, Grimes shared that she was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism this year, and she suspects she might also be dyslexic, explaining her difficulty in spelling without the help of a spell-checker.

If we had known this when I was a child, I probably would have worked less, been susceptible to substance abuse, and many of the unusual drives and motivations I had might have been labeled as pathological. The “Kill V. Maim” singer added, “I could have avoided some things that were difficult for me, but I’m grateful I overcame them. I likely would have used drugs too.

Grimes, the mother of children X Æ A-Xii (aged 4), Exa Dark Sideræl (aged 3), and Techno Mechanicus (aged 2) with Elon Musk, elaborated on some of her broad perspectives related to mental health and learning disabilities. She also opened up about her personal experiences in this regard.

In their own words, the 37-year-old expressed that their ADHD symptoms significantly worsened when they weren’t an avid reader. They found it disheartening to see an ADHD account implying that reading, one of the most beneficial activities for children with ADHD, could be problematic or pathologized. They were so frustrated by this statement that they couldn’t express their feelings any further.

As a lifestyle expert, I myself have found myself drawn deeper into the realms of neuroscience and Russian language studies, following my observations on how children diagnosed with ADHD are often treated. My academic background from McGill University has certainly fueled this curiosity, but it’s the personal experiences I’ve witnessed that have truly piqued my interest.

“I have kids (and I did go to school for neuroscience btw) – so I am very interested in what’s going on,” she tweeted, “especially as I see my friend with older kids be again and again diagnosed with adhd and told they need stimulants.”

“No one my age had this,” Grimes added. “Despite the stimulants literacy is way down etc – it seems valuable to solve this problem.”

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d rephrase it like this: Recently, I’ve been open about my concerns regarding Elon, as he’s made our children’s lives, especially our eldest son who has frequently accompanied him to meetings with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, more public than we agreed upon. It’s essential for me that their privacy is respected.

In a recent interview with TIME, I expressed my preference for others to refrain from sharing images of my child online. I believe that fame, especially when it comes to personal matters like family, should be something one willingly consents to. Of course, things will continue as they are. However, I cannot stress enough how much I would truly appreciate this request.

Maye was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, but her family moved to Pretoria, South Africa in 1950 when she was just 7 years old. Her paths diverged from that of Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, in 1979.

Elon Musk’s father, Errol, was an engineer and like Elon, was born in South Africa. Despite taking his children on numerous trips around the world, as he shared in a 2015 interview with Forbes, his relationship with Elon wasn’t always smooth. In a 2017 Rolling Stone interview, Elon expressed criticism towards his father and discussed his upbringing following his parents’ divorce, stating that living with his father after the split was not beneficial for him.

However, Errol shared in the same Rolling Stone interview that he cares deeply for his children and would do anything for them. After his divorce from Maye, Errol married Heide, who had a daughter named Jana Bezuidenhout at the time. Errol and Heide later divorced as well.

Years later, following her own breakup, Jana reconnected with Errol. As he explained in a 2018 interview with The Sunday Times, they found solace in each other during their difficult times, and eventually became romantically involved. They went on to welcome a son named Elliott in 2017 and a daughter in 2019. Errol expressed his desire for more children, stating that if he could have another child, he would.

Kimbal, hailing from 1972, is a restaurant entrepreneur and creator of The Kitchen, a group of five restaurants that obtain produce directly from local farmers. In a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, Grimes disclosed that she and Elon had secretly welcomed a daughter through surrogacy. She named the baby girl Exa, explaining that it refers to the term exaFLOPS in supercomputing (the capacity to perform one quintillion floating-point operations per second). Dark, on the other hand, symbolizes the unknown, often feared but actually representing the absence of light particles. Exa is said to be a representation of the enigmatic and captivating essence of the universe, much like the mysterious nature of dark matter. It was disclosed by Walter Isaacson in his biography titled ‘Elon Musk’ that Exa was delivered through a surrogate in the month of December 2021.

The book further mentioned that by Father’s Day in 2022, the intermittent pair, often referred to as such, became parents to a child named Techno Mechanicus, affectionately known as Tau. Their journey to parenthood also included the assistance of a surrogate. A picture from June 2022 is included in the biography, showing Elon tenderly feeding his newborn son.

Last year, 2022, Business Insider disclosed court papers revealing that Elon became a father to twins in November 2021 through Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink. The children were delivered in Austin, Texas, which is where he resides.
