As a child of the late 90s and early 2000s, Jim Carrey‘s The Grinch has been an integral part of my holiday traditions. I remember eagerly awaiting its annual airing on ABC Freeform, and the DVD was a staple in our family’s movie collection. The idea of a four-hour director’s cut is tantalizing to say the least!
Since its release in 2000, Jim Carrey’s The Grinch has become a beloved holiday tradition, and now there’s a push to create a 4-hour version of the movie. This petition is asking for all deleted scenes, even those not included in previous home video releases, to be reintroduced into the film. This would also involve upgrading these scenes to high definition, as the ones currently available on DVD and Blu-ray are quite low resolution. The idea is that by incorporating all the scenes back into the movie, it will restore the 4-hour original cut that director Ron Howard mentioned earlier.
Moreover, the petition proposes that it would be delightful to incorporate additional elements in the extended version, such as fresh commentary from Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen, maybe even some initial story sketches and artistic concepts.
The subsequent part of the petition showcases numerous rediscovered deleted scenes, some featuring additional mayhem by Carrey’s Grinch in extended sequences and scenes. As of now, this petition boasts more than 1,700 signatures, and further details are available in the official description provided below.
“We need a director’s cut of “The Grinch” for all the dedicated fans out there. This 2000 Christmas classic has left a lasting impression on many, including myself. I’ve been a huge fan ever since I saw the film at the age of five and instantly fell in love with it. This movie inspired me to pursue a career as a actor/director I’ve had the privilege of starring alongside Woody Harrelson and working with Bobby Farrelly on the film Champions. When I was six, I would watch the behind-the-scenes sections of the DVD repeatedly, fascinated by the film making process. This film holds a special place in my heart.
It’d be fantastic if we could enjoy the previously cut scenes back in the movie, making it even more enjoyable for fans. Many of the deleted scenes from The Grinch, available on DVD and Blu-ray, are in standard definition (480ip). However, fans are anxiously waiting to see these scenes upgraded to high-definition versions, preferably remastered as HD editions. We’re also keen to catch the additional footage that occasionally airs during the annual ABC Freeform broadcasts, along with any other unseen material.
Ron Howard revealed that his original cut of the movie was four hours long, leaving about two hours of footage that didn’t make it to the final version. Additionally, it would be fantastic to have new bonus features on Blu-ray, including new commentary from Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen, a gallery of behind-the-scenes pictures, and the original storyboards and concept art. Many Grinch fans are eager to see more of this beloved film. Please share the hashtag #WEWANTGRINCHEXTCUT on all your social media platforms to show your support and share this petition.”
