Gundam Creator to Reveal Space Society Secrets at Upcoming Event!

Back in the late 1970s when Yoshiyuki Tomino initially conceptualized the Mobile Suit Gundam series, it’s hard to fathom that he could foresee the massive scale the mecha anime would eventually reach. With a plethora of merchandise sales and continuous production of new anime spanning various timelines and universes, Tomino has much to rejoice about. Interestingly enough, the Gundam creator has been invited to speak at an actual space event, delving into whether Earth can establish an “optimal space society” or if humanity may be destined to follow in the footsteps of the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon.

The highly anticipated talk is scheduled for July 8th in Japan, during Spacetid’s “Space Business Conference 2025” by the Spacetide Foundation. To generate excitement, they have shared details about the panel led by Tomino, a renowned director known for his portrayal of space-themed hope and warnings through the lens of a civilization that has achieved space travel in Japan’s iconic “Gundam” series. The discussion will delve into questions such as: How can we explore space without damaging Earth? How closely does our current reality resemble the future he envisioned 50 years ago? What kind of future are we moving towards? Additionally, they plan to ask Tomino his thoughts on the contemporary state of space commercialization. This promises to be an extraordinary event that bridges the gap between science fiction and real-world issues.

What Is Spacetide?

During the summer event this year, Spacetide seized the moment to elaborate on their own objectives. This innovative organization is dedicated to shaping the future of human civilization through space exploration, all while establishing lasting and sustainable habitats for mankind among the stars. In relation to their summer event, the organizers issued the following declaration:

2015 marked the inaugural commercial space conference in Japan, a term scarcely used at that time. Hosted by SPACETIDE, this event ignited the surge of advanced commercial space activities driven by the private sector. As we stand ten years later, both globally and in Japan, the space industry has made substantial advancements, with numerous successful private companies and significant investments. However, many people worldwide still view space as a specialized and remote field. SPACETIDE’s goal is to collaborate with you all at this 10th anniversary conference, “The Next Decade: Unlocking Space for All Humanity,” to collectively shape the upcoming decade’s exciting new wave.

Gundam’s Universal Century Comeback

In the animated series “Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” created by Hideaki Anno, we see an intriguing twist on the long-standing conflict between Zeon and the Earth Federation. Instead of Earth emerging victorious as it did in the original series, Char and his allies are now the ones who claim victory in this alternate reality. The pivotal moment that shifts the course of the Universal Century is when Char discovers the Gundam mech first, a discovery that significantly changes the outcome of the war. While Amuro was instrumental in securing Earth’s triumph in the original series, here things take a different turn.
