In addition to being set in a universe where events unfolded differently in the initial Gundam series, there’s one aspect about the newest installment of Mobile Suit Gundam – GQuadruple X – that has been intriguing anime enthusiasts. The title might take some getting accustomed to since you may need to hear “GQuadruple X” pronounced a couple of times before it rolls off your tongue easily. Recenty, our team at egmr.ru had the chance to interview the show’s director Kazuya Tsurumaki regarding this new installment in the mech franchise and asked him a question that we’ve been curious about since its announcement: “Where does GQuadruple X originate?
To begin, let’s examine the rationale behind GQuuuuuuX‘s inclusion in the series. In the anime, the title signifies the Gundam that Nyan operates, with the suffix referring to it being an early model of a mech. In everyday language, “Quuux” is typically used as a flexible term for a temporary name, leaving room for another name to eventually supplant it. By adding several extra “u’s”, the latest installment of the Gundam series may be challenging to pronounce, but it has quickly gained traction with massive mech battles and some unexpected, thrilling twists that have shaken up the universe that launched the franchise.
Where Did The GQuuuuuuX Come From?
Kazuya verified that a significant factor behind the challenging-to-pronounce title “GQuuuuuuX” was their intent to create a distinctive, striking new name. “In fact, we finalized the title just before its release, due to time constraints. We didn’t want a title that would be easily overlooked. Rather than another ‘cool name’ or ‘mech name,’ we aimed for something truly exceptional within the Gundam series. Consequently, we ended up with the six U’s!
In its unique alternate reality setting, the latest Gundam series stands out by skillfully employing this storyline. While it strays from familiar terrains often seen in current shows, the animation by Kazuya and Bandai Namco Filmworks has elevated the series among Gundam’s long-standing history of mecha franchises. Despite being new to piloting mechs, Nyan is swiftly adapting with her new GQuuuuuuX, a challenging name notwithstanding.
In the most recent installment, the main character with red hair has teamed up with Shuji Ito, a mysterious blue-haired pilot who controls Char’s Red Gundam. They’re using this partnership to fight clandestinely in an underground arena for additional income. With their skills, Nyan and Ito appear to be the unbeatable duo, even as world powers start paying attention to their activities.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
