As a lifelong fan of mecha anime, I can barely contain my excitement for the upcoming addition to the hallowed Gundam franchise – Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX! The collaboration between Sunrise and Khara Studios, with Hideaki Anno and Yoki Enokido as scriptwriters, is a dream come true for fans like me. I still remember the first time I watched Evangelion back in the 90s, and to think that Anno will now have his own Gundam series is just mind-blowing.
The creators behind your favorite series, Mobile Suit Gundam, have made a unique revelation about their upcoming title in the esteemed mecha franchise. This fresh addition is titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, a joint production by Sunrise and Khara. Their special announcement video can be found on the Gundam Info YouTube Channel, offering glimpses of the mobile suit designs and principal characters. The renowned duo Hideaki Anno and Yoki Enokido from Neon Genesis Evangelion are credited as scriptwriters for this new Gundam production.
GQuuuuuuX – Mobile Suit Chronicles
The Next Gundam Series is Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX
Prior to the television premiere of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX in Japan on January 17, 2025, a cinema version of the initial episodes will debut. At present, the GQuuuuuuX is the only mecha confirmed for the series. Recently, Gundam Info unveiled a new commercial promoting the High Grade 1/144 GQuuuuuuX model, emphasizing its advanced articulation capabilities.
For the first time, Sunrise is teaming up with Studio Khara, a studio led by Hideaki Anno, who has previously worked on the Evangelion films’ rebuild series. Known for their collaboration on projects like Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider, it’s fitting that Anno now gets to work on his own Gundam series. This opportunity seems like a significant milestone in Anno’s career as he has already contributed to other iconic Japanese franchises, such as Godzilla and Ultraman. It’s exciting to see him bring his unique perspective to the Gundam universe.
In the Gundam series, there are numerous timelines and distinct universes. The space colony depicted in the GQuuuuuuX trailer seems reminiscent of those featured in the initial Gundam shows from the 70s and 80s, but it’s unclear whether this is set within that same universe.
In the gaming world of 2022 and 2023, I was hooked on “The Witch from Mercury,” a series that truly shone for Sunrise. This epic tale began with a group of teenagers joining a military school, which then morphed into an extraordinary space revenge story inspired by Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” What made it even more intriguing was the presence of two leading ladies with fiery red hair – a rare sight in the Gundam universe. And guess what? The latest addition to our gaming roster, “GQuuuuuuX,” also features a heroine with that same striking ginger mane!
Earlier this January, Sunrise debuted a fresh movie titled “Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom“. This new release continues the success of its predecessors, namely the popular Japanese anime series “Seed” and “Seed Destiny“. To date, it has been the most profitable film in the Gundam franchise.
