As a die-hard Gundam fan who’s been following this iconic franchise since the Cosmic Era began (or maybe even before that!), I can confidently say that the upcoming release of Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom on Netflix is an event of galactic proportions. I still remember waiting in line for tickets to watch it in theaters, and now, here we are, with the opportunity to stream it at our fingertips!
The anime film, titled “Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom“, has become the most successful and lucrative production in the entire franchise’s history. Given that the mecha series has been producing television shows and full-length films for many years, this achievement is quite significant. The movie premiered in Japanese cinemas earlier this year, followed by a limited screening in the West shortly afterwards. Fortunately, if you didn’t get a chance to catch the blockbuster at the box office, there’s some exciting news for fall! It’s been announced that Netflix will stream “Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom“, and mecha enthusiasts won’t have to wait long before they can watch the movie on the platform.
In 2002, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed initially debuted as an anime spin-off, departing from the initial universe that sparked the series and instead delving into a fresh timeline known as the “Cosmic Era”. Instead of just depicting a space conflict between two human groups operating the mechs, the storyline would pose a challenge to humanity through the emergence of the “Coordinators”. The Coordinators were new entities who bore genetic enhancements and resided in outer space, playing a role somewhat similar to Zeon’s Principality.
Gundam Seed Freedom is Coming
As per Netflix’s schedule, the series “Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom” is set to debut for subscribers on September 1st. In Japan, this film has been streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime since earlier. After its arrival in September, Netflix will be releasing a new original “Gundam” anime titled “Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem For Vengeance“, which is due to premiere on October 17th.
