seldom do you come across true crime documentaries that showcase both the criminals and the investigators who pursued them, but that’s exactly the focus of Guy Ritchie’s recent project.
In April, Netflix is set to air “The Diamond Heist,” and a thrilling trailer gives us a sneak peek into the secrets that this three-episode series promises to reveal.
Kick-starting our discussion with a criminal himself, Lee Wenham, he shares insights about the grand unveiling of the Millennium Dome back in 2000, now famously recognized as The O2 Arena. Remarkably, it hosted some of the world’s most valuable diamonds, making for an intriguing tale.
Determining that this would be his final endeavor, Lee outlines their strategy for breaking into the vault, making an escape, and attempting the greatest heist ever conceived.
Additionally, the series features input from the Flying Squad, a team on standby, ready to pounce when Lee and his associates slipped up with their actions.
You can watch the trailer below.
The show, titled “Guy Ritchie’s Production,” is overseen by the esteemed Guy Ritchie and hails from award-winning production company, Lightbox Media. As per its description, it promises to be an enthralling exploration into the world of true crime, akin to a captivating heist story.
In the year 2000, a gang of criminals from Southeast London is planning an incredibly bold and daring heist.
My intention: I’ll seize the opportunity of a bright day to utilize a bulldozer in a daring break-in at the Millennium Dome, making off with the world’s second largest flawless diamond, valued at an astonishing £350 million. My escape route will be by speedboat along the Thames.
“There’s just one tiny problem: the Flying Squad are watching.”
The narrative unfolds from the perspectives of the Southeast London gang involved in the heist, as well as the officers leading the biggest Flying Squad operation ever, who successfully thwarted their actions.
Currently, Ritchie is basking in a series of high-profile roles. As an executive producer for The Diamond Heist, he’s also introducing a fresh wave of crime dramas, including MobLand, Wife & Dog, with the eagerly awaited second season of The Gentlemen on the horizon.
Last year, it was disclosed that Ritchie is going to direct a fresh Sherlock Holmes TV series. This upcoming series, set to feature Hero Fiennes Tiffin, will delve into the origins of the renowned detective, providing an exhilarating retelling of this timeless character in an “explosive reimagining”.
