In a surprising twist, Gwen Stacy, who was previously believed deceased, is set to make her return to the Marvel Universe. Unlike her heroic past, she’s now taking on a role similar to Deadpool, as hinted by recent Marvel teasers. The details about her resurrection and transformation were initially promised this week, and true to their word, Marvel has revealed that Gwen Stacy is being reimagined as a cold-blooded killer in a new spin-off series titled “Gwenpool“. This new Gwenpool character shares more similarities with Deadpool than the adored Gwen Stacy fans are accustomed to from Spider-Man lore. As this development unfolds, it seems that even Spidey may require assistance from the original Gwenpool to solve this enigma.
The renowned author Cavan Scott, best known for his work on “Star Wars: The High Republic,” and artist Stefano Nesi form the creative duo behind the character Gwenpool. First introduced in 2015, Gwenpool is a character from our world named Gwendolyn Poole who finds herself in the main Marvel Universe. Her name reflects her unique origin as she’s a blend of Deadpool, with her costume influenced by him. She’s made occasional appearances and was once part of the West Coast Avengers team, joining both Hawkeyes (Clint Barton and Kate Bishop).
As for Kate Bishop, I’m thrilled to share that she’ll be gracing our screens in Gwenpool, alongside the legendary Jeff the Land Shark. The latest version of Gwenpool is giving her look a sinister twist, swapping her traditional white and pink for an ominous black and purple ensemble, reflecting her newfound darker side.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement! Reviving Gwen is nothing short of a privilege. Merging not only Gwenpool’s but also Spider-Man’s worlds? Sign me up! The return of Gwen Stacy, more lethal than ever, equipped with Weapon-X abilities and a sharp wit to match. This isn’t your old memory of Gwen. The mystery surrounding her resurrection is intriguing, and the fate of the original Gwenpool’s cautious lifestyle adds another layer. With Kate Bishop and Jeff the Land Shark thrown into the mix, this Marvel series is shaping up to be my dream come true!
Stefano Nesi is set to introduce himself in the Marvel Comics universe with his work on Gwenpool, following a previous stint on DC’s Batman. Scott expressed his excitement, stating, “I couldn’t find a more suitable collaborator than Stefano Nesi for the art!” He went on to say, “The intense action has never been this enjoyable! Every brutal attack is vividly depicted through Matt Milla’s striking color palette. Brace yourselves as Spider-Man and Kate encounter situations where nothing, or no one, is inviolable!
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Gwenpool is back on the scene, but this time, she’s more dangerous than ever! The life of our beloved reality-twister is taking an unexpected turn as a darker counterpart is wreaking havoc in a war-torn NYC with her brutal brand of justice. Who is this mysterious Gwenpool doppelganger? And what does she have planned for the Amazing Spider-Man? The series, featuring Kate Bishop and Jeff the Land Shark as guest stars, promises to shock you to your very core!
Issue #1 of the series “Gwenpool” showcases cover art by Chad Hardin and Greg Land, with Jeehyung Lee providing an impressive portrayal of the cherished character Gwenpool. Furthermore, Paco Medina’s ominous promotional artwork featuring Gwen Stacy’s grave will also be offered as a variant cover for “Gwenpool” #1. This initial issue will hit the stands on May 14th.
