Gwyneth Keyworth’s Urgent Plea: Will Death Valley Get a Season 2?

Tell us about your character in Death Valley.

Initially, does your relationship with Timothy Spall resemble how Janie idolizes Chapel? This question is inspired by my personal experience working with Mr. Spall.

A short distance away, it’s Timothy Spall! Initially, there was a hint of admiration when we first met. However, I had previously collaborated with his son Rafe on stage in the adaptation of Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird – he was charming and kind, so I assumed his father would be equally pleasant. And indeed, my assumption proved correct!

Are you anticipating it to carry on – might this turn into a prolonged detective duo, similar to Morse and Lewis?

Or,

Is there a possibility that this continues for a long time – could it evolve into a lasting detective team akin to Morse and Lewis?

I’m certainly hoping for the best, as I haven’t received any information thus far. However, if given the opportunity, I’d jump at it. The thought of spending time with Tim once more is truly exciting and something I look forward to.

Death Valley holds a multitude of unsolved murders, but it’s more than just a mystery tale – it has a strong Welsh connection. Did this aspect draw you in as well?

Absolutely, it highlights the vastness and variety of Wales. Furthermore, I believe Wales possesses a unique sense of humor about itself. After all, we all enjoyed the Gavon & Stacie Christmas special! It’s delightful that as a Welsh speaker, some Welsh is spoken in the show.

Do you ever worry about it being stereotypical, or tokenistic?

A distinct concern arises. On previous occasions in Wales, I’ve noticed texts that seem to be penned by non-Welsh natives. All of a sudden, it feels like everyone is part of a choir, none have academic degrees, and we find ourselves underground in a mine.

It’s disappointing, as you’re aware, because Wales possesses such richness and variety. What makes it wonderful is that we’re depicting a lively, contemporary image of Wales during prime time.
