Haikyu’s Anime Might Not Be Ending Just Yet

The popular anime series “Haikyu!!” is currently deep in a significant undertaking aimed at wrapping up its franchise, but a recent development hints that the conclusion might be more distant than fans initially anticipated. Haruichi Furudate’s original “Haikyu!!” manga wrapped up its serialization with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2020, and since then, the anime has been preparing for its own epic finale. Instead of continuing the television series with a new season as many anticipated following Season 4, “Haikyu!!” has initiated a new film project to bring the anime to an end through two upcoming movies set to grace theaters worldwide.

The anime series Haikyu!! FINAL was originally planned as a two-part movie to conclude the franchise, with the first part released in theaters last year. The first movie, titled Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, started the adaptation of the Nationals tournament, and now it’s been announced that the second movie will continue this tournament with the next significant match. However, a recent update on the Haikyu!! website suggests that there might be more to come after all, as the “FINAL” title for the film project seems to have been dropped (as noticed by @Haikyu_EN on X).

The official HAIKYU!! website no longer lists the movies as “FINAL.”

Is Haikyu’s Anime Going to End Soon?

The popular anime series “Haikyu!!” has unveiled its second feature-length film titled “Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant.” The release date is yet to be determined, but it will center around the match between Karasuno and Kamomedai High Schools, which follows directly after the events of “Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle.” This battle will represent the next round of the Nationals, but it’s worth noting that this film’s plot extends beyond where the original manga concludes. This was one of the main points of contention for this major anime project.

The anime series “Haikyu!! FINAL” was initially planned as a two-part movie conclusion, but the structure has left fans curious about how it will play out. Since the first film, “Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle,” is a direct adaptation of the Nationals match between Karasuno and Nekoma, and the second movie appears to be adapting the following round as well, there’s likely going to be significant content left on the editing room floor if this is indeed the final film. This has sparked anticipation about the possibility of more installments in the future.

What’s Left for Haikyu?

For those who’ve followed the anime, this competition isn’t close to wrapping up the entire series. After the Nationals, a substantial final storyline unfolds, and it takes some time before the series reaches its climactic game. Fans have eagerly anticipated this part of the narrative in the anime since the manga concluded, and it seems that the creators behind Haikyu!! have hinted at this long-awaited anime adaptation.

Though the last Haikyu!! movie may conclude the series, there’s a chance for further TV projects in the future. The upcoming special broadcast in Japan focuses on an important Nationals match not featured in the films, suggesting that the franchise could expand beyond movies as well. As we anticipate updates about this next film, we’ll also be eager to learn if it truly marks the end or not.
