As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for heartfelt documentaries, I eagerly anticipate the airing of Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone this Christmas. Having grown up watching Dave Myers and Si King’s culinary adventures, their camaraderie left an indelible mark on my youthful imagination, much like a well-cooked, savory dish lingering in memory long after the meal has ended.
This Christmas, a heartfelt remembrance for the late Hairy Bikers’ star, Dave Myers, is scheduled to be broadcast on the BBC. The program will be hosted by his long-term professional collaborator, Si King.
The TV series “Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone” reflects over the 25 years of television work by Myers and King, during which their strong bond significantly shaped the landscape of cooking shows.
In February, Myers, who was 66 years old, lost his life after a long fight against cancer. This tragic news left both his fans and his fellow artist, King, deeply saddened.
A motorcycle trip fundraiser takes place, starting in London and ending in Barrow-in-Furness (Myers’s hometown), to commemorate Myers’s legacy in August. This event successfully collected £127,000 for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and the Institute of Cancer Research.
“You’ll Never Ride Alone synopsis: The documentary uses old interviews, fresh insights, and never-before-seen footage to honor Dave’s life. It traces his incredible journey that spanned the globe, where he became one of the most remarkable duos in television history as a chef.
The one-off hour-long special will come to BBC Two and iPlayer “just before Christmas”.
King made the following statement: “Putting it all together for that show was incredibly meaningful. It was filled with nostalgic moments, laughter, and a heartfelt tribute to honor my dearest friend and his life.
Commissioner Catherine Catton stated, “The bond between Dave and Si holds a unique, cherished spot in our nation’s heart, and this moving film celebrates an exceptional friendship.
Andrew Mackenzie, the producer, remarked: “This year, the outpouring of affection for The Hairy Bikers has been remarkable. It was truly an honor for everyone involved in their production to capture Dave Day’s story and celebrate the long-standing friendship between Si and Dave over the past twenty years.
This month, King opened up in a heartfelt piece for The Sunday Times about the challenges he faced in coping with the loss of his close friend. He admitted to contemplating a journey by bicycle from which he might never return.
On other occasions, I was filled with fury. Fury towards that cursed illness, fury at God, and pretty much anything else that crossed my mind. Folks would inquire about my future plans.
“I plan to spend some time pondering over the life I shared with my dearest friend, and contemplate the future.
“Which is exactly what Dave would have wanted. Move forward, don’t dwell on the past.”
Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone comes to BBC Two and iPlayer this Christmas.
