Haley Joel Osment is looking back at this moment with sober eyes.
A week following the arrest of the actor known for “The Sixth Sense” on charges of public intoxication and controlled substance possession at a Californian ski resort, he publicly apologized for uttering an antisemitic slur in police footage that was later obtained by People magazine.
In a heartfelt statement, I express my deep regret for my actions. If I had realized I had used such abhorrent language during a moment of unconsciousness, I would have addressed it earlier. The recent months of grief and upheaval have left me in a fragile emotional state.
He went on to say, “However, that doesn’t make it acceptable to use such an offensive term. From the depths of my soul, I deeply apologize to everyone who was hurt by this. The words that escaped me were senseless and unacceptable – I let down the Jewish community, and it pains me greatly. I don’t seek forgiveness, but I vow to make amends for my grave error.
TopMob News has attempted to get a response from representatives of both Osment and the Mono County Sheriff’s Office, but no comments have been received so far.
After his arrest on April 8, District Attorney David Anderson stated via a press release (obtained by TopMob News on April 17) that Osment was charged with two minor offenses: disorderly conduct due to being intoxicated in public and possession of cocaine. The official confirmed that the actor will appear in court for arraignment on July 7.
In addition to his arrest, Osment had other encounters with law enforcement in the past. At the age of 18, the actor from “Blink Twice” admitted he was not guilty in 2006 for driving under the influence of alcohol, consuming alcohol illegally, and marijuana possession. The authorities confirmed these details to Today at that time. He received a sentence of three years of probation after this incident.
In a span of several months, his latest dispute occurred following the loss of his house due to the devastating wildfires in Southern California. Ever since this unfortunate event, he has been residing with his younger sibling, who goes by the name Emily Osment.
Earlier this month, he shared with “Us Weekly” that she’s been extremely kind and supportive towards him. He finds her simply amazing.
It’s not surprising, given that they have maintained a strong relationship throughout their separate Hollywood journeys, since the former Hannah Montana star (who recently finalized her divorce from Jack Anthony) and he have always been close due to their shared careers in the industry.
