Half-Life 2: Episode 3 – New Footage Showcased in 20th Anniversary Documentary

As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia and a twinge of disappointment when I think about Half-Life 2: Episode 3. The documentary was like opening a time capsule, filled with promises that were never fulfilled.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2, Valve has produced a documentary chronicling the creation of this iconic first-person shooter game. As part of the celebration, they’re also offering the game for free, albeit for a limited time. In the documentary, they give us peeks into an intriguing project that was eagerly awaited but never released – you guessed it, Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

In the documentary, Valve unveiled brand new and never-before-seen footage from their abandoned project. This footage highlights a fresh enemy type that resembles blobs and can shape-shift, moving through grates or dividing into smaller versions of itself. Additionally, they demonstrated a novel weapon called the Ice Gun, which lived up to its name as it froze things effectively.

In the documentary, the team responsible for creating Episode 3 of a certain game disclosed that Valve Corporation had created several stages for the game prior to its development being paused. This pause allowed the team to assist in completing the work on Left 4 Dead. By the time this was finished, the executives at Valve (including Gabe Newell) decided it was too late to resume working on Half-Life 2: Episode 3.
