As a seasoned observer of Hollywood’s vibrant and ever-changing landscape, I must say that Halle Bailey has certainly caught my attention this year. With her radiant smile and captivating presence, she has graced red carpets across the globe, from the prestigious Oscars party to the glamorous Milan Fashion Week.
Halle Bailey is channeling her mentor through her breakup.
Approximately two weeks following the announcement by DDG that they had parted ways after two years, it appears that the actress from The Little Mermaid subtly discussed their separation while offering a peek into her current activities.
Accompanying photos showcasing her workout sessions with their 9-month-old son, Halo, as well as images from pool time and one in a recording studio sipping what looks like a glass of white wine – these were all part of the October 11 post she captioned, expressing “life is beautiful,” complete with pink heart and smiling face with heart emojis.
24-year-old Halle subsequently posted the images on her Instagram Story, accompanied by Destiny’s Child’s empowering breakup song “Survivor,” which was overseen by her mentor Beyoncé. The lyrics “I’m a fighter / I won’t back down / I won’t quit / I’ll work harder / I’m a survivor / I’m determined / I will live / Keep on fighting” were also included, emphasizing her resilience and determination.
Chloe Bailey publicly expressed her affection towards her younger sibling by commenting, “I adore you” on social media.
Initially, Halle didn’t speak about their separation. However, on October 3, Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., commonly known as DDG, disclosed via an Instagram Story that they had chosen to part ways after being together for two years.
“After much reflect and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” he wrote. “This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared.”
He mentioned that his affection for his former partner remains strong and unwavering, and they continue to be great friends who cherish one another deeply.
In discussing our separate paths and our responsibilities as parents together, we value the connection we’ve nurtured and the delightful memories we’ve created.
In 2022, the actor known for playing a role in The Color Purple and the musician famous for his song “Moonwalking in Calabasas” made their relationship public, even though they initially crossed paths back in 2015.
In an interview with Essence in 2022, Halle expressed that she spent a significant part of her upbringing on YouTube, where she frequently encountered and drew inspiration from young Black content creators. She considered herself to be one of them.
And although she admits she “forgot about him” as her career was taking off, the two reconnected again when DDG released his own music.
She remembered feeling strongly drawn to that particular song, and as fate would have it, he reached out to her at around the same time. After that, everything that followed became a part of history.
For a look back at the couple’s romance, keep reading.
