As a long-time fan who has witnessed the evolution of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers since the 70s, I must admit that the rollercoaster ride of their story has been both exhilarating and exhausting. From bell-bottoms to social media, Jamie Lee Curtis‘ portrayal of Laurie has become an iconic part of horror cinema history.
2022 saw the release of Halloween Ends, which was marketed as the final confrontation between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. In this film, Michael’s body was thrown into a trash compactor, seemingly signaling the end of Jamie Lee Curtis’ portrayal of Laurie. However, with Halloween just passed, Curtis hinted at a possible comeback to the franchise, leaving the possibility open-ended with her statement “never say never.” She also fueled speculation by posting about a potential return on social media. As of now, there’s no official word on what’s next for the series, but Miramax has acquired the TV rights for it.
Curtis explained to Entertainment Weekly that he has retired his bell-bottom pants and light blue button-down shirt, and bid farewell to Laurie with a heartfelt ‘aloha’ and thanks for all the shared years and memories. However, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 65 years on Earth, it’s that nothing is ever truly goodbye.
Following my chilling performance in the 1978 classic “Halloween,” I graced the screen once more in the 1981 continuation, “Halloween II.” The storyline seamlessly picked up from where the initial film concluded. However, the subsequent installment in the series, “Halloween III: Season of the Witch,” intended to break away from the Michael Myers lore permanently. Unfortunately, it fell short with both viewers and critics, leading to the production of “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” in 1988. This sequel revealed a heart-wrenching twist – Laurie had perished, but not before giving birth to Jamie, who would become Michael’s relentless focus for the next three films.

In 1998, Curtis reappeared significantly in the franchise through “Halloween H20: 20 Years Later”. She accepted this role due to the anticipated participation of original creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill. However, Carpenter and Hill ultimately did not participate. Nonetheless, the film rekindled interest in the series, prompting Curtis’s return for “Halloween: Resurrection” in 2002. Unfortunately, Laurie was killed off at the beginning of this movie.
In the realm of horror cinema, I’ve been captivated by the iconic “Halloween” series, and my admiration has grown over the years. The series experienced a fresh start in a revitalized universe under Rob Zombie’s direction, with two installments before Jamie Lee Curtis graced our screens once more in 2018’s “Halloween,” serving as a direct sequel to the original film. So far, the talented Ms. Curtis has starred in seven out of the thirteen films in this saga. It’s intriguing to ponder what the future may bring for both the actor and the storyline, as John Carpenter hinted last year that there are still avenues to continue the tale.
In a conversation with ComicBook in 2023 about how the movie Halloween Ends (from the previous year) supposedly wrapped up the tale of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, Carpenter hinted, “Don’t take it for granted just yet. There are numerous possibilities for resurrecting Michael Myers. There are many ways to narrate that specific story. We’ll simply have to be patient and find out.
Stay tuned for updates on the future of Halloween.
