Halo Infinite Bringing Back Halo 3 Game Mode

Halo Infinite Bringing Back Halo 3 Game Mode

As a long-time Halo fan, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the return of VIP mode in Halo Infinite! This game mode holds a special place in my heart from my experiences playing Halo 3 back in the day. Protecting the VIP and trying to take out the enemy team’s VIP was always an intense and exciting experience.

The beloved game mode “VIP” from the hugely popular Halo game series is making a comeback in Halo Infinite, as revealed by 343 Industries this week. Originally presented in Halo 3, this mode hasn’t resurfaced since then, except for custom versions created by dedicated players. In Halo Infinite, the revived VIP gameplay will closely resemble its earlier iteration where teams compete to eliminate each other’s designated “VIP” member while safeguarding their own.

In the upcoming Operation: Fleetcom, 343 Industries revealed the inclusion of VIP mode. Different from standard 4v4 games, this isn’t an instant win upon eliminating the enemy VIP. Instead, it follows a best-of-10 scoring system, with the team that accumulates 10 points first declared as the victor.

If your team’s VIP dies, the next player who passes away gets promoted as the new VIP when they come back to life. This was explained in the game mode description. Your identity as the VIP will be clear to the opposing team due to distinctive effects and a marker above your head, meaning you can’t assume this role and then hide throughout the match to save points. Collaborate with your team, stay together, and remember to safeguard your VIP using your abilities, but when those fail, your life will take over instead.

Seven maps – Bazaar, Catalyst, Forbidden Forest, Illusion, Interference, Prism – will be available in the exclusive playlist for VIP members starting July 30th. These maps can also be accessed through public matchmaking, as well as Forge and Custom Games, allowing players to tailor their own unique VIP experiences by utilizing the following options:

Halo Infinite VIP Options

  • Set VIP – Set the VIP of a team
  • Clear Team VIP – Clear the VIP of any given team
  • On New VIP – Event node indicating that a new VIP has been selected
  • On VIP Killed – Event node indicating that a VIP has been killed
  • Get Is VIP – Input a player and return if they are currently the VIP on their team
  • Set VFX Status – Input a player to apply the new VIP visual effects on their Spartan

At 343 Industries’ announcement, they mentioned that Headhunter would make a comeback as well. However, there isn’t as much information available regarding this return when compared to the imminent launch of VIP.
