Halo Infinite is getting a highly requested feature for the first time in November

What you need to know

  • Halo Infinite multiplayer first launched back in November 2021, with the campaign following in December.
  • Since then, the game has received a number of new modes, maps, and quality-of-life features, like the Match Composer added earlier in 2024.
  • Developer 343 Industries shared that Halo Infinite is getting a third-person mode in November 2024.
  • This mode will allow players to adjust their camera, playing Halo Infinite like a third-person shooter.

As an analyst with a rich background of gaming experiences, I am thrilled to see Halo Infinite venturing into new territory. The introduction of a third-person mode is a bold move and a testament to the game’s adaptability. While I remain loyal to the traditional first-person perspective, I appreciate the flexibility that options offer.

There’s a big change coming for one of gaming’s biggest names in first-person shooters.

343 Industries, developers from Xbox Game Studios, announced on Friday that Halo Infinite will feature a third-person perspective mode. This announcement was made as we gear up for the Halo World Championship 2024 series. Here’s some sneak peek footage of the new mode: [Footage Link]

As a researcher, I must admit that I’m currently uncertain about the specifics of the ‘mode’ they’re referring to. It remains unclear whether this feature will be adjustable via a toggle, or if it will only be accessible in the campaign mode, or if it’s exclusively for multiplayer. The clips shown in the work-in-progress video are all from multiplayer sessions, but only time will reveal more details.

343 Industries hasn’t revealed an specific launch date yet, but they hinted that the third-person mode for Halo Infinite might arrive sometime during November 2024.

Previously this year, the head of consumer products at Xbox, John Friend, mentioned in an interview that they have plans to commemorate significant milestones of franchises under Xbox ownership, including the 25th anniversary of Halo. Notably, November 9, 2024 will be the 20th anniversary of Halo 2, a game originally released on Xbox that played a crucial role in making Halo a well-known brand.

I’m excited to try out the third-person playstyle they’ve added. While I primarily enjoy first-person shooting in Halo, the inclusion of a smooth third-person option is appealing. After all, the series already switches to third-person during vehicle and turret sequences, so having this option as a permanent feature could enhance gameplay overall.

Halo Infinite stands among the top Xbox games out there, with its multiplayer mode now accessible for free on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC. However, the campaign requires a purchase and is included in Xbox Game Pass subscription.
