Happy Death Day 3: Fans Rejoice as Exciting News Finally Breaks!

The third installment of “Happy Death Day” is progressing, as confirmed by star Jessica Rothe! She shared this exciting update at the American Cinematheque on Saturday night during a double-feature screening of “Happy Death Day” and “Happy Death Day 2U”. Director Christopher Landon was present to confirm that production on the eagerly anticipated sequel has begun, but no release date has been announced yet. It’s been six years since a new film in this amusing slasher series was released, leaving fans craving more. It remains unclear if the previously speculated ideas for the third movie will materialize or be abandoned.

On Saturday, Rothe shared with the audience that “the third movie is progressing,” while Landon also affirmed, “it’s moving forward.” The success of Happy Death Day in 2017 sparked speculation for a sequel, but the unexpected success of Happy Death Day 2U in 2019 only fueled excitement. Since then, both the cast and crew have been eager to continue the storyline.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net back in 2020, I expressed my heartfelt wish: “I dearly hope that we’ll have the chance to finish off this trilogy.” Chris has got a fantastic vision for it all, but we are determined to bring it to life only if we can do it justice. It seems to me it’s a matter of waiting and seeing whether the right opportunity presents itself in our world.

Despite this, Rothe seemed aware that a third installment wasn’t likely soon. She proposed they could follow in Jamie Lee Curtis’ footsteps from Halloween, with Tree returning as a formidable 50-year-old character. She expressed readiness to take on this approach – whatever it takes to get the film produced.

Regarding Landon, he expressed in 2020 his intention to title the third film “Happy Death Day to Us” and stated that it would deviate from the previous two movies. Initially, Universal and Blumhouse seemed to be contemplating a streaming-exclusive miniseries on Peacock instead of a movie, divided into three parts. However, it appears that this plan is no longer in effect.

In a refreshing twist on time-loop films like “Groundhog Day,” “Happy Death Day” combines the concept with the slasher genre. The character played by Rothe is Tree Gelbman, a cynical sorority girl who discovers she’s stuck repeating her birthday inexplicably, always ending in her own death. The sequel introduces a sci-fi element to this premise, paving the way for potential future installments and perhaps even an enduring franchise.

The sequels “Happy Death Day” and “Happy Death Day 2U” are currently accessible for digital rental or purchase from various video-on-demand platforms, while we await updates about the progress of the third installment in the series. As of now, it remains uncertain where in production this threequel is, and a release date has yet to be revealed.
