Happy Valley creator unveils first look at new drama Riot Women with Sherwood and Line of Duty stars

We finally have our first look at Sally Wainwright’s anticipated new drama, Riot Women.

For some time, it’s been clear that the actors in the creator of Happy Valley‘s latest series are well-known talents. Now, we get to see them rehearsing together, forming a temporary punk-rock group on set.

In some photos, the cast is captured in a casual band rehearsal setting. However, other images offer a sneak peek into future events as Lorraine Ashbourne (Sherwood), who plays Jess, is depicted behind drums. Additionally, Amelia Bullmore’s character Yvonne from The Buccaneers, Rosalie Craig’s Kitty from Moonflower Murders, and Tamsin Greig’s Holly from Friday Night Dinner are all seen preparing to take the stage for a performance.

Although the exact launch date for Riot Women remains undecided, this sneak peek into the characters will undoubtedly fuel more anticipation for the show.

Tracing the story of a collective of five females joining forces to establish a punk-rock band and enter a local competition, the show follows their adventure in composing their debut original piece, uncovering along the way that they have a wealth of powerful sentiments to express.

According to the show description: “Balancing challenging careers, adult kids, complicated elders, absent spouses, and disastrous romances, the band serves as a spark for transformation in their lives, causing them to reconsider everything.

In this six-part tale, I’ve found a profound demonstration of friendship, music, and the unyielding spirit of women who defy age and societal norms to make their voices heard. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that their bond transcends music – an ancient, dormant secret starts to emerge, one that mysteriously links Kitty and Beth, the band’s innovative power duo, in a perplexing triangle. This hidden truth could potentially shatter everything we know.
