The forthcoming Harry Potter television series on HBO Max has found the actor who will portray Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic who often causes trouble for Harry Potter and his companions. The Harry Potter series, much like Star Wars, holds a significant cultural impact. Despite being comprised of only seven books and eight films (excluding spin-offs), the Harry Potter franchise has made an indelible mark on popular culture due to its vast fantasy realm and multidimensional characters. It’s grown so massive that it now boasts its own section at Universal Studios, where visitors can experience the world firsthand with locations, food/drinks, and shops offering wands and robes for purchase.
Even though it’s been just over a decade since the Harry Potter movies concluded, Warner Bros. is keen to continue the magic. To do this, they are creating a Harry Potter television series that will adapt each book across seven seasons. The Harry Potter franchise has already selected actors for Harry, Ron, and Hermione; these young talents will be seen maturing on our screens as the show progresses. However, the larger cast is yet to be finalized.
Harry Potter TV Series Casts Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge
According to Deadline, Bertie Carvel has been cast as Cornelius Fudge in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Carvel is recognized for his extensive work on stage and will be notably younger than Robert Hardy, who played Fudge in the films, was when he joined the franchise at over 70 years old during “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” As Carvel is 47, this could result in a significantly different portrayal of the character.
Although his role in the show isn’t fully defined yet, this new casting suggests that his appearance might come earlier than it did in the movies. Production for the Harry Potter HBO series is gearing up to start sometime this summer, so we might catch glimpses of set photos and videos from time to time during 2021.
It’s anticipated that the Harry Potter series will come out some time next year, but we don’t have a specific date just yet. Since there will be a lot of visual effects work due to all the magic and unique settings, it wouldn’t be unexpected if Harry Potter premieres on HBO Max during the holiday season of 2026. The Harry Potter series already boasts a large cast with Nick Frost portraying Hagrid and John Lithgow as Dumbledore. At this point, it’s still unclear who will take on roles such as Voldemort and other characters that will be introduced in later seasons like Cedric Diggory.
