It seems that the creators of Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software, are currently developing a Harry Potter online role-playing game. While we already know they’re working on Hogwarts Legacy 2, it appears that WB Games has expanded their Utah-based team to handle two projects at once. Given the unprecedented success of Hogwarts Legacy, which is WB Games’ top-selling title so far, this move doesn’t come as a shock.
Previously, Avalanche Software wasn’t known as a top-tier game development studio. Mostly, they were involved in creating mediocre games based on licenses. Their latest game prior to the release of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023 was Cars 3: Driven to Win, which didn’t receive great reviews in 2017. This background information is important because some job postings and a subsequent leak suggest that Avalanche Software has significantly improved its standing since then.
Based on numerous job postings, Avalanche Software is seeking a team member for an “online multiplayer role-playing game.” However, since Hogwarts Legacy is not an online multiplayer RPG, it seems unlikely that these job openings are connected to the sequel of Hogwarts Legacy. Unless there are significant changes planned for the next installment, it’s more reasonable to assume these positions are for a different project. In fact, if they were for Hogwarts Legacy 2, the job postings would likely disclose this information rather than keeping it confidential.
It seems that Avalanche Software is developing a different game, specifically an online multiplayer RPG, although it’s not confirmed if this new project will be related to Harry Potter. Given the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy and the significance of the Harry Potter franchise to Warner Bros., it’s reasonable to assume that Avalanche Software will continue to focus on Harry Potter projects for a while. This assumption is strengthened by the fact that, so far, the studio has achieved limited success outside of this intellectual property, making it unlikely that Warner Bros. would assign them tasks unrelated to Harry Potter in the near future.
On social media platform X, a reputable leaker named XOXLEAK (who is famous for Marvel Rivals leaks) has shared information about a survey related to an upcoming playtest of the game. The survey seeks feedback on various aspects such as preference for menu-based lobbies or lobby-based lobbies.
Additionally, it’s said that other topics discussed in the survey were: observing events (spectating), personalizing characters, a feeling of camaraderie (community sense), and customizing user profiles. This latter category encompasses badges, titles, character designs, and dynamic backdrops.
