Harry Potter Star Admits They Forgot They Were in the Franchise While Watching Third Movie

As a fellow Potterhead for over two decades, I can completely relate to Evanna Lynch’s feelings of longing to be part of the magical world she inhabited as Luna Lovegood. Her emotional connection with the franchise and its fan community resonates deeply within me, reminding me that there truly is no place like Hogwarts when it comes to finding a sense of belonging.


Twenty years have passed since the initial live-action Harry Potter film premiered in cinemas, a series that encompasses an impressive eleven feature films, along with numerous other tales told through various platforms. The franchise is so vast, even actor Evanna Lynch recently got drawn into a rewatch of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, finding herself yearning to be a part of that story, before realizing she was indeed a part of it, having starred in four films within the franchise. Lynch first appeared as Luna Lovegood in the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was filmed approximately two years after Prisoner of Azkaban.

In simpler terms, Lynch said, “I don’t usually watch movies because they get too emotional for me, but recently, ‘Prisoner of Azkaban’ was on, and my partner and I ended up watching it without really intending to. It made me feel like I wanted to be a part of that magical world, and then I realized, ‘Hey, I already am!’ This is because the Harry Potter fans have kept that world very much alive in my life. I’ve been trying to find a sense of belonging in other communities, but none have been as deep a fit yet. So yes, I’m always glad to remain connected to the Harry Potter universe.”

The Secrets of Dumbledore,” was released in 2022. Despite initial plans for two more films, the lackluster reception from critics and audiences has put a halt on those further productions.

Since the Harry Potter series ended, some characters associated with it have moved away from the story, but others, like Lynch, have remained active advocates for its magic. She recently explained what keeps her tied to that universe, such as narrating the new audiobook titled “From the Wizarding Archive“.
