As a devoted fan who grew up with Harry Potter, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and impatience upon hearing that the upcoming TV series might not grace our screens until 2027. I remember when the final film was released, I was just about to enter college, and now here we are, almost two decades later, eagerly awaiting another magical journey.
According to HBO’s chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, it seems we might need to wait till 2027 for the new Harry Potter TV series to start airing on our televisions.
Was asked if the show might premiere in 2026, as was earlier anticipated. However, Bloys informed Deadline that it would be sometime “between late 2026 and early 2027.” He also mentioned that since the writers are just beginning their work, discussing an air date at this point is premature.
During the same interview, it was disclosed that not only has the writing phase commenced, but Director Mark Mylod (recognized for Succession and this year’s The Menu) has also embarked on this venture. He elaborated: “We are in the process of recruiting department heads, finalizing casting, and we’re all systems go.
In response to queries about a rumored start date in March for production, Bloys clarified that no specific date has been chosen as of now.
He mentioned that the young actors’ ages would be in March, but this doesn’t automatically imply the starting date for the production, he clarified.
15 years after the last movie based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved children’s book series was released, it was revealed in April 2023 that all seven novels would be transformed into a brand new TV show.
Back in September, it became public knowledge that auditions were being held for young actors to send their own video submissions for key parts in the upcoming show. This disclosure indicated that filming would take place somewhere between 2025 and 2026.
The call was made for kids who will be between nine and 11 years old as of April 2025, and who are permanent residents in either the United Kingdom or Ireland. Additionally, it stated that they prioritize inclusive and diverse casting practices.
In June, it became known that Francesca Gardiner, known for writing several installments of His Dark Materials and The Rook, will take on the role of showrunner for the upcoming series. Meanwhile, Mylod will serve as executive producer and direct various episodes.
The summary for the program reveals that it will be an accurate portrayal of the cherished Harry Potter book series, written by author and producer J.K. Rowling.
