As per Gunn’s statement, the initial plan for the team involved a more extensive appearance of Batman, but he wasn’t prepared to finalize specific visual aspects at that stage, given that “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” was yet to approach.

Initially receiving it, there were many scenes featuring Batman which I wasn’t prepared for. I kept repeating, ‘I’m not ready! I’m not ready!’ Instead, I found myself asking for more shadows or silhouettes.
He emphasized further that the appearance of this cameo served primarily to establish Batman’s presence in the DCU narrative timeline and subtly suggest that he is an established, recognized character.
It’s a clever method to establish that Batman is indeed a character within our universe. Similar to how we watch the Superman film and understand that Superman is already present in Metropolis, we don’t need to rehash his origin story. Instead, it’s a way of implying that Batman is already a part of this world, playing a significant role, and making an impact on it, even taking down formidable villains like Phosphorus, who poses a serious threat.
As a die-hard movie fan, I can’t help but share an exciting tidbit: Director James Gunn himself has hinted that the upcoming Batman will eventually cross paths with Superman in the DC Universe.
He declared, ‘This is DCU’s Batman.’ Let me tell you something, I have an affection for Batman that runs deep. I’ve cherished him since my childhood days. He ranks high among my favorite characters. You might recall me expressing this fondness when I was at Marvel, stating Batman as my top pick. I’m excited about the amazing things we’re going to achieve with him. He’s a global phenomenon and I can hardly wait for people to witness more of him, alongside Superman.
Is Batman: The Brave and the Bold Still Happening?
Although Batman debuted officially within the DC Universe, there remains an air of mystery as to how exactly he’ll fit seamlessly into it.
In production are two projects featuring Batman: “The Batman 2” starring Robert Pattinson and “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”. Each explores distinct interpretations of Bruce Wayne. Despite having considerable advance notice, neither film has a finalized script at this point, which is causing some bewilderment among fans. One might wonder why Batman, such a pivotal figure in the DC Universe, isn’t receiving immediate attention from Gunn and the creative team at DC?
Further complicating matters, The Batman 2 was recently delayed an entire year to October 2027.
Under the new DC Studios flag, the show “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” is designed to align seamlessly with Gunn’s unified DC Universe. Conversely, “The Batman 2” continues as a standalone Elseworlds project, existing separately from the main narrative of the DC Universe storyline.
It’s worth noting that Warner Bros., in its approach, tends to lean towards more traditional or conventional storytelling. This is the studio behind the somber, brooding Superman portrayed in the unsuccessful Snyderverse, a universe that emerged due to the outstanding performance of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. With Batman’s success and his dark, gritty persona, Warner Bros. seemed to conclude that all superheroes should follow this darker, grittier template.

Under new management at Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav now holds the highest position, yet the inaction regarding the Batman projects appears strikingly reminiscent of traditional Warner Bros. studio meddling.

Could it be that the creators of the HBO series titled “The Penguin,” which shares a universe with Batman, are receiving much acclaim and anticipation? Given its outstanding reviews and popularity on Max, one might speculate whether Warner Bros. studio executives are considering integrating Robert Pattinson’s Batman character into the main DC Universe to leverage the success of his own universe. If this were to happen, would it potentially lead to the abandonment of plans for Batman: The Brave and The Bold, a series that aimed to delve into Batman’s relationship with his son, Damian Wayne?
