Hayden Christensen is returning to the galaxy far, far away, as he will once again play Anakin Skywalker in Season 2 of “Ahsoka”. Although the panel at this week’s Star Wars Celebration Japan was meant to reflect on the show’s first season, Lucasfilm did share some insights about future developments. During the panel, Christensen appeared on stage, and it was revealed that Anakin will appear in Season 2 of “Ahsoka”. Furthermore, Lucasfilm confirmed the casting of Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll, who will take over the role previously played by the late Ray Stevenson in “Game of Thrones”.
In the second season of Ahsoka, Hayden Christensen makes his fourth appearance as Anakin Skywalker during Star Wars’ Disney period. Prior to this, he provided a voiceover in The Rise of Skywalker, and appeared on screen both in Obi-Wan Kenobi and in the first season of Ahsoka.

Despite a strong bond between Anakin and Ahsoka, it wasn’t certain that Hayden Christensen would reappear during the early planning stages for Season 2. As late as last summer, he himself was unsure about his return. Star of ‘Ahsoka’, Rosario Dawson, expressed her hope for another on-screen encounter with Christensen to delve deeper into their characters’ relationship.
As of now, there’s no announced release date for Ahsoka Season 2, but showrunner Dave Filoni hinted that production will start soon. According to reports, they’re planning to use various filming techniques this time around, like shooting on real locations. While Filoni is busy promoting other projects at Celebration, his producing partner Carrie Beck is preparing for the shoot in the U.K., ensuring everything is ready to go.
It’s not entirely surprising that Hayden Christensen is back, given his significance to Ahsoka, but it’s still a pleasant surprise. It’s expected that he won’t have a major role, but he’ll likely have some crucial scenes, appearing as a Force spirit to offer guidance to his former apprentice during trying times. As Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, and Huyang live their lives on Peridea (possibly attempting to rejoin the main Star Wars universe), Ahsoka will likely encounter difficulties that Anakin can help her overcome. It’s also intriguing to consider whether there might be flashbacks to the Clone Wars period. There have been whispers that Natalie Portman could return as Padmé Amidala in Ahsoka Season 2, leading some to wonder if Ahsoka will remember a moment from her past as she moves forward.
In the first season of Ahsoka, Christensen’s reappearance was particularly impactful. He plays a pivotal role, especially in the standout episode titled “Part Five: Shadow Warrior,” where he guides Ahsoka through her training in the World Between Worlds and assists her in resolving her past conflicts and emotional wounds. It wasn’t just nostalgia for fans to see Anakin on the show; his appearance was crucial to Ahsoka’s storyline, providing a satisfying resolution to certain aspects of her character development. Although specifics about how he’ll be involved in Season 2 are being kept secret, considering the quality of his inclusion in Season 1, it’s likely that whatever Filoni plans will significantly contribute to the franchise’s lore and prove to be a valuable addition.
