Hayden Panettiere is reflecting on her time out of the spotlight.
The actor from “Scream 4” has just shared insights about her four-year hiatus from acting, explaining that this unexpected choice allowed her to concentrate more on various facets of her private life.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, published on April 30th, Hayden Panettiere stated that she unintentionally took a break for four years. She didn’t plan it, but life just turned out that way. She admitted that she really needed this time off.
Despite not initially planning for such a prolonged break, Panettiere (mother of 10-year-old Kaya with ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko) mentioned that taking time off helped her reconsider her career from a new perspective in life. During this period, she faced challenging times personally, as she openly discussed her battles with alcohol, opioid addiction, and postpartum depression while working on Nashville from 2015 to 2018.
After a brief hiatus, I found myself taking a step back from the spotlight, only to return in 2023. It was then that I had the privilege of once again slipping into the iconic shoes of Kirby Reed, a role I’d originated in Scream 4. The anticipation for Scream VI was palpable, and I couldn’t wait to rejoin the franchise.
Previously, the experiences I had were distinctly unique, almost as if they presented a pristine canvas waiting for my personal touch. Now, I strive to steer my career towards paths I hadn’t been able to venture into before.
Through this new outlook, the actress from “Bring It On: All or Nothing” expressed feeling noticeably stronger and well-rooted. However, she stressed that this revamped version of her is still a work in progress.
It’s beneficial to consistently grow and transform personally, a practice I strive to maintain in order to continuously discover more about myself, my preferences, dislikes, and other aspects. Panettiere explained, ‘However, I’ve never embodied this version of myself before. I’ve never been as comfortable with being who I am without feeling the need to apologize for anything. It feels like I’ve finally gained the right to have an opinion.’
On previous occasions, she’s spoken about her break from the Scream universe. As she prepared for her comeback, Panettiere openly shared her concerns that her absence from the silver screen might impact her ability to portray the final girl character effectively.
She shared with Entertainment Weekly in 2023 that she’d been concerned about her acting abilities. She’d been away for four years, so she needed to refresh her memory of what she was capable of and confirm she could still act. However, she felt confident that her decision was the right one.

As an ardent admirer, let me share the journey of the remarkable Ellen DeGeneres. Her self-titled talk show concluded in 2022 after a captivating run of 19 seasons, amidst allegations concerning a challenging work environment that triggered an internal probe, numerous executive dismissals, and widespread criticism.
However, Ellen reemerged with her final standup special, “For Your Approval,” on Netflix in September 2024. In the build-up to this special, she disclosed her intention to bid adieu not just to the stage but also to Hollywood altogether.
As reported by SFGate, during her Ellen’s Last Stand…Up tour, she expressed, “This is the last time you’re going to see me.” After my Netflix special, I’m moving on.
Ellen and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, are said to have relocated to England following the reported win of Donald Trump in the 2024 elections. However, they haven’t made any public statements regarding the motivation behind their move.
Tyra Banks, host of America’s Next Top Model, shared on Today with Jenna & Friends in April 2025 that one reason she moved to Australia was her love for her ice cream brand SMiZE and Dream. The company had been primarily business-to-business (B2B), but they were making a significant amount of their ice cream in an Australian facility. She fell in love with the country each time she visited, and realized it was a great market for her business since Australia, along with America and New Zealand, are among the countries that consume the most ice cream. So, Tyra moved to Australia with her son York (Erik Asla’s ex) and boyfriend Louis Bélanger-Martin, stating that Australia has been fulfilling a dream for her and her family.
After quite some time since the star of “Desperate Housewives” resided on Wisteria Lane, she has since found a new residence in reality. Eva expressed her feelings about leaving Los Angeles to Marie Claire in November 2024, stating that although she had spent most of her adult life there, it was changing even before the pandemic. The atmosphere shifted, and then Covid occurred, which pushed things over the edge. Issues such as homelessness or taxes have made California feel like a chapter in her life that’s now closed.
For the past few years, Eva, along with her husband José Bastón and their son Santiago, have divided their time between Mexico and Spain. She acknowledged her privilege, as she can escape to other places while many Americans are stuck in what feels like a dystopian country, causing her anxiety and sadness for them.
Eva made it clear that her decision to move was not due to President Trump’s re-election. Instead, she left because her work took her there, as she had been filming “Land of Women” for six months in Catalonia and four months in Mexico for “Searching for Mexico.” Since then, she has resided in Spain for several years and doesn’t appreciate the politicization of it.
Since moving, Eva has remained active with roles in shows like “Only Murders in the Building” and “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.
The actor and his family have moved from Chicago to Madrid, Spain. In a November 2024 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he mentioned that his Spanish wife, Alejandra Silva, has been in Spain for about seven years. He also shared that they plan to spend some time in Madrid as a family. Their young sons, Alexander and James, are bilingual and are expected to thrive there. Richard, who also has an adult son named Homer with ex-wife Carey Lowell, expressed their happiness with this move, stating that they are happier than ever.
Christina, who is married to singer Matt Pokora, revealed on The Jennifer Hudson Show in November 2024 that they had been living between the U.S. and France for several years, but have now made Paris their permanent home. This decision was made so that their children, including Violet from her previous marriage with The-Dream, as well as sons Isaiah and Kenna from her union with Matt, could attend school in France. Christina stated that the family is thriving in Paris, with their children enjoying the city and learning French. She also mentioned that she maintains a healthy work-life balance, working during the night while enjoying an active daytime lifestyle with her family.
Lindsay grew tired of speculation surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. To clarify matters, she discussed her experiences during her busy work days and nights of partying in the 2000s. In an interview with Bustle in March 2024, she expressed that her accomplishments were often overshadowed by paparazzi and related nuisances when she was younger, which she found frustrating. She lamented that aspect of her past, stating it took on a life of its own and led to her desire for anonymity. She explained, “I wanted to disappear unless my work was the focus.”
After leaving Los Angeles, Lindsay relocated to London followed by Dubai, also establishing beach clubs in Greece. However, there was another motive behind her escape from the public eye.
In her own words, Lindsay expressed, “I found myself wondering, ‘Will I never experience love? Is this something that will never happen for me?'” She continued, “It was simply taking time for myself that allowed all those opportunities to present themselves and the ‘yeses’ to come – the things I desired to respond with a ‘yes.'”
Lindsay did indeed find love in Bader Shammas. They tied the knot in 2022 and welcomed their son, Luai, the following year. The couple resides in Dubai, but Lindsay hasn’t given up on her Hollywood career entirely. She has starred in films such as “Our Little Secret,” “Irish Wish,” and “Freakier Friday.
As for myself, after much contemplation, I found Hollywood to be more than just a location – it’s an all-consuming mindset. Surrounded by people who only talk about the film industry, my life was becoming monotonous, something I never desired. So, craving more depth and diversity in my experiences, I decided to move away from Hollywood.
In search of a change, I yearned to be surrounded by people engaged in various activities that would distract me from work and stimulate growth in different areas. As I once said, “To me, that’s the essence of life.”
Thus, my family – including my wife Tamsin Egerton and our four children – relocated to England’s Hampshire countryside. As I shared with The Guardian, time flies when you’re a busy parent, and although it may seem like less is happening, more of the truly significant moments are unfolding.
Despite my departure from Hollywood, I’ve remained active and have been fortunate enough to secure roles in Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.
If you haven’t recently looked at your social media accounts, you might be unaware that Jesse no longer resides in Los Angeles. As he shared with CBS News Sunday Morning in February 2025, Jesse has spent the last decade living in Indiana off and on, feeling most comfortable there. He explained that he doesn’t feel drawn to an industry that seems unstable to him.
Despite being an Oscar nominee, Jesse leads a relatively ordinary life with his wife Anna Strout and son Banner. He revealed that he is not active on social media and doesn’t spend much time chatting with people in the industry on the phone. This means that his life feels quite separate from the world of Hollywood, where he avoids constantly evaluating his own status in the industry. His wife is a teacher, and their son Banner isn’t particularly interested in movies, further distancing Jesse from the movie world.
Following stints in productions like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the 2000 film “Bring It On”, Eliza announced in September 2024 that she had earned certification in psychedelic-assisted therapy and was continuing her education to become a mental health specialist.
She shared with Boston Magazine, “I discovered a path where I could concentrate on healing myself first, in order to assist others later. It would be unfair not to express the change, the tranquility, and the enthusiasm I’ve experienced since then. This is unmistakably my true vocation, my genuine purpose.
Back in January 2025, the star of the Flintstones, Rosie, announced that she and her youngest son Clay had relocated to Ireland. She’s currently working on acquiring Irish citizenship, as her grandparents hail from this European nation. Although she pointed to recent political changes as her motivation for leaving, Rosie didn’t completely close the door on a possible future return to her home country.
In the TikTok video she shared, she expressed her longing for her other children, friends, and various aspects of life back at home. She is currently searching for a new home in this stunning country, but only when all citizens have equal rights in America would they think about returning.
Actress who stars in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has decided to take an open-ended break from her acting career, marking a pause in a 20-year journey within the film industry.
In a post on Instagram last June, Evangeline expressed her happiness and contentment, stating, “I’m bursting with joy today as I follow my dream!” She went on to express her gratitude for the blessings in her life. Although leaving behind wealth and fame can sometimes feel daunting, she finds that embracing her true purpose (dharma) replaces fear with a sense of achievement instead.
However, she may not be definitively closing the door, as she also mentioned, “I could potentially go back to Hollywood someday, but for now, this is where I feel at home.
The actor from “The Vampire Diaries” hasn’t taken on a new character since the 2019 Netflix series “V-Wars”. Instead, he’s immersed himself in a personal project, focusing his efforts on combating climate change by enhancing the quality of our soil.
Approximately four years ago, Ian decided to take a break from acting to focus on his family and business ventures, as well as releasing the documentaries “Kiss the Ground” in 2020 and its sequel “Common Ground.” In an interview with TopMob News in November 2023, he discussed these projects, which highlight the importance of regenerative farming. Ian shares two children with his wife, Nikki Reed.
Speaking about the future, the actor explained, “I envision myself as a rancher and creator of renowned brands, be it my bourbon or health and wellness company. My commitment to regenerative agriculture and soil management will also continue, a practice cherished by me and my family. This is the path I see for my life. So when others ask ‘Why are you so invested?’ – this is why. It’s an expression of who I am and what I aspire to be.

Jennette openly admitted about her acting career in a candid manner: “I’m deeply ashamed of the roles I took on earlier in my career,” she confessed, as detailed in her 2022 memoir titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died“. She expressed resentment towards her profession and felt underwhelmed by the characters she portrayed. She found them cheesy and embarrassing. From age 13 to 21, she starred in various shows, but even at 15, she felt embarrassed about it. Her peers at that age didn’t view her success on Nickelodeon as cool; instead, it was something they found embarrassing.
She hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of a return to acting, but through writing her book, she has discovered a potential approach to acting that doesn’t burden her with old baggage. In an interview with TopMob News in October 2022, she suggested that if she writes something specifically for herself, it could be one of the few ways for her to consider diving back into acting again.
This seemed like a straightforward choice. If we had the chance to wed Prince Harry, devote our life to causes that deeply matter to us and have access to the Queen’s magnificent collection of tiaras, saying goodbye to Hollywood might not seem so bad.
In the footsteps of Grace Kelly transitioning from Hollywood to Monaco’s Royal Palace, Meghan Markle departed from her Toronto residence and the hit TV show Suits, embarking on a journey with The Firm. She clarified to her friend Gwyneth Paltrow that she had made a change in her life, seeking new aspirations. After pushing herself relentlessly for so long with work and filmmaking, it became exhausting. When producing a movie, it’s easy to use that as an excuse – the production demands you wholeheartedly for 12 hours each day, often for months at a time, leaving no room for anything else.
Beyond what she had already delved into, there were numerous other areas she wished to investigate, such as writing (having published her 2013 New York Times bestseller The Body Book followed by The Longevity Book in 2016). Additionally, she started a family with her husband Benji Madden. However, though she admitted to InStyle in 2019 that “I don’t miss performing. At the moment, I’m focusing on wellness and related fields,” it appears there might be an exception made for one more performance.
In a conversation with TopMob News, Jamie Foxx expressed his ardent request and admiration by saying, “We humbly requested and showed our appreciation as if to say, ‘Could you do it one more time?'” when asking Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix film “Back in Action”. He added, “We adore her, we’ve been eagerly anticipating her return, and this collaboration is going to be simply extraordinary.
After completing a five-year stint on Empire, the actor made it clear there would be no further performances. When asked about his future plans by Extra before the start of the musical drama series’ sixth and final season in 2019, Terrence stated emphatically, “I’m finished with acting. I’ve had enough of pretending.
Despite coming back for several roles, the Oscar nominee declared his intention to retire from acting during promotions for his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, in 2022. He explained to ET that he feels he has given the best he can as an actor and now prefers watching emerging talent instead of imitating himself.
Despite those comments, it’s worth noting that Howard has made additional appearances in various shows and movies since then. For instance, he was in the TV series “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” and the Netflix film “Shirley”. Furthermore, there are several future projects lined up for him as well.
After my unexpected and vivid departure from the throne in 2014, at the tender age of 21, I decided to step away from acting. Having dabbled in it since I was eight years old, I confessed to EW that the joy I once found in it had waned. “I’ve been an actor for most of my life,” the star of Game of Thrones shared, “but lately, I haven’t been enjoying it as much as I used to.
Initially, acting was merely a pastime I shared with friends and something fun to do during the summers. But now, it has become a potential career for me. While I still find enjoyment in it, turning it into my livelihood alters the way I perceive it. It’s no longer just something I want to do; it’s not my primary desire anymore.
Following a hiatus of six years, he was prepared to reclaim his position, and in 2020, he became part of the cast for BBC’s series titled “Out of Her Mind”. In the midst of my unparalleled acclaim with “Ghostbusters” and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” the ’80s heartthrob chose to retreat from Hollywood not too long after the tragic loss of my beloved wife to breast cancer in 1991. This decision was driven by a deep commitment to nurturing our children, Rachel and Mitchell, who meant the world to us both.
Despite not appearing in a live-action movie since 1997 and turning down a cameo in Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters remake, Rick continues to be a beloved cultural figure. This was demonstrated by the public uproar over news that he had been assaulted while walking in New York City in 2020.
Fortunately, fans can rejoice as Rick will make his comeback, teaming up with Josh Gad, in the upcoming Disney remake Shrunk.
After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, Drew Barrymore suggested that she might be moving away from acting. In an interview with Vogue, she explained that “most acting roles involve a lot of intimate scenes with others, and I’m not interested in participating in that.” She further elaborated, “It’s a strange flame to play with, and our relationship is strong enough to endure it. However, if one is going to walk through fire, there needs to be something extraordinary on the other side.
Her resolve became firm when her son Martin joined her older daughter Louisanna in 2014. In 2016, she expressed to Us Weekly at an event that she no longer engages in film-related activities and considers herself as merely a mother and an outsider. She assists Kimmel with his business ventures and enjoys painting on the side. Her primary focus is now on her children, which is likely the main reason for her decision to step away from acting.
She had watched Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. At that point, the Australian figured out that perhaps it was time for her to move on to new things.
2018 on Ellen DeGeneres’ renowned talk show, I found myself nearing the age of 45, questioning if there was something fresh and formidable I could undertake that would set me apart. Acting had always been my path for the next decade or two, but I yearned for a change. So, I made the bold decision to leave acting behind and embark on an entrepreneurial journey.
As a die-hard admirer of her artistic endeavors, I can’t help but share this thrilling snippet about my beloved creative enterprise, General Public. With the final piece nearly complete, it’s as if I’m holding my breath, eagerly awaiting its grand unveiling.
I reached out to Mitch Hurwitz, the mastermind behind “Arrested Development,” explaining that if there is a fifth season, I won’t be participating due to my decision to step away from acting. He seemed very empathetic, and our discussion was insightful. We had an enjoyable talk, and afterward, he included me in five episodes by writing me into them.
