Hayley Atwell Joins Avengers: Doomsday (But Is She Playing Captain Carter?)

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast who has witnessed the rise of superheroes from the comic book pages to the big screen, I can confidently say that the return of Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter (and possibly Captain Carter) is nothing short of exhilarating news!

Over at Marvel Studios, things have been hectic for quite some time now and it doesn’t seem like they’re slowing down anytime soon. Recent headlines were made when Robert Downey Jr. announced his comeback as Doctor Doom in the MCU, and this week, we learned that Chris Evans is rejoining the team too. Now, Deadline reports that Hayley Atwell may also be making a return, this time as part of Avengers: Doomsday.

It’s anticipated that she will take on the role of Agent Carter once again. However, there’s uncertainty if this might also involve her portraying Captain Carter at some stage. Notably, the report focuses on Agent Carter, which is the character she predominantly played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following her introduction in Captain America: The First Avenger.

After securing her own spin-off in Agent Carter, Atwell eventually made her appearance as Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Over time, she has become a beloved character among fans. Regrettably, she met a violent end in that movie, but considering everyone else also perished, she’s in quite distinguished company.

In the primary storyline of the movies, Peggy Carter has passed away, and Captain America, Steve Rogers, is seen at her funeral. If Evans reappears in future films, it’s possible that we might get a chance to witness revived versions of both characters, aligning with our portrayal of Tony Stark in the “Doom” universe. It would be delightful to see Peggy and Steve share the screen again.

There’s a strong possibility that fans eagerly anticipate Atwell reprising her role as Captain Carter in live action again. However, whether this will or even can occur is still uncertain. Interestingly, Atwell herself has expressed interest in continuing the character’s journey in some future narrative during an interview at AwesomeCon (via CosmicCircus).

Well, there’s no new information to report just yet. However, I wholeheartedly agree with your excitement, and if Marvel were to find a suitable place for her, it would be one that aligns well with the growth and progression of her character.

Through playing this character, I’ve been granted an exceptional chance to refine my skills within this series. There’s still a lot more for me to accomplish, and I believe the fans will appreciate it. As she is often perceived as secondary by many, continuing in that role wouldn’t be fitting at this juncture. Given the current times and especially considering the recent developments regarding women, her assertion ‘I know my worth, and others’ opinions don’t matter’ resonates strongly.
