Although Marvel Studios has kept mum about their future Avengers projects, a recent profile in The Hollywood Reporter could have inadvertently revealed an exciting casting secret. Hidden within their “Power Lawyers 2025” list, a compilation of the top 100 entertainment lawyers, lies a subtle but significant disclosure: Actress Hayley Atwell is set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe for both “Avengers 5” and “6.

The news emerges through Julian Zaifen, a partner at the influential firm Ziffren Brittenham and a seasoned dealmaker for heavyweights in Hollywood such as Dick Wolf, Eddie Murphy, and Gareth Edwards. In his professional biography, Zaifen is recognized for brokering several significant recent contracts — among them, Atwell’s agreement to feature in Avengers 5 and 6. This marks the first time that Atwell’s potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been publicly disclosed, particularly in a role spanning two consecutive Avengers movies.
Avengers 5 & 6 are obviously Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The movies are anticipated to function as extensive crossovers spanning multiple universes, much like “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” and “Doctor Strange in the Realm of Chaos”; they leveraged classic characters and alternative universe variations of well-known heroes.

In a thrilling cinematic journey, I recently reprised my role as Captain Carter in “Multiverse of Madness,” joining the Avengers Illuminati. This incarnation of the character hails from the Marvel’s animated “What If…?” series, where Peggy Carter, instead of Steve Rogers, was transformed into a super soldier by the Super Soldier Serum. In this alternate timeline, she wielded a vibranium shield adorned with the Union Jack, reflecting her British heritage. Over three captivating seasons of “What If…?”, Captain Carter has been a central figure, with my latest appearance in December 2024 marking a memorable chapter in this intriguing narrative.
Some fans were thrilled to witness Atwell’s return in a dynamic action role as Captain Carter. However, her portrayal, specifically the defiant “I could do this all day” line reminiscent of her past and her abrupt death at Wanda Maximoff’s hands, sparked diverse opinions. Critics argued that Marvel was reinforcing another stereotypical “strong female character,” while diminishing beloved male heroes. This character has since been seen as emblematic of the studio’s contentious “M-SHE-U” era, with Captain Carter merchandise and appearances increasing, despite criticism from certain fan bases.

It’s quite possible that Hayley Atwell, reprising her role as Captain Carter, could play a larger part in the Avengers team, given that both “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” are anticipated to involve numerous versions of legendary heroes from various timeframes.
If the information is accurate, Hayley Atwell’s return might be an indication that Marvel is committed to expanding the Captain Carter character, regardless of fan opinion.
