HBO Confirms a Long Wait for House of the Dragon Season 3 Is Happening

As a hardcore Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon fan with over two decades of patience honed from waiting for George R.R. Martin’s books, I have to say I find myself standing on the precipice of Westeros yet again, bracing myself for another rollercoaster ride through the Seven Kingdoms. The wait is long, but as a seasoned veteran of the realm, I know that good things come to those who wait – or at least, to those who have HBO Max subscriptions!

Based on Perrette’s statements, it appears that the new season of “House of the Dragon” is expected to debut around mid-2026. Moving forward, we can anticipate the third season of “Euphoria” in early 2026 as well. After that, we will return to “House of the Dragon” for its third season, which means that at least two or three of their major flagship shows will be released every year.

As a passionate gamer eagerly waiting, I’m excited to share that George R.R. Martin’s captivating universe will soon be explored in an innovative manner on HBO. The CEO hinted at the release of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” this coming summer of 2025. However, it’s important to mention a slight contradiction with Casey Bloys, the President and CEO of HBO, who earlier this year suggested a Q4 debut in 2025. While that timeline still appears probable, nothing concrete has been confirmed as of yet.

Fans are still pondering over the suspenseful ending in “House of the Dragon” season 2, but they might be surprised to find out that the actors haven’t received scripts for upcoming episodes as of now. During New York Comic Con last October, Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Fabian Frankel (Criston Cole), and Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen) shared that they were all in the dark about season 3 developments.

Glynn-Carney and Smith have both shared they haven’t received any scripts or updates from ‘House of the Dragon’ showrunner Ryan Condal, unlike their co-stars, who hinted (through Variety) that they’ve heard some secretive information, which they can’t disclose publicly.

Since the debut of House of the Dragon’s second season, George R.R. Martin has openly criticized the recent episodes. On his blog, he voiced concerns about specific elements and the creative decisions taken during the adaptation of his book. Similarly, many fans have expressed disappointment with the slow pace of the last season of House of the Dragon. However, the ending of season 2 hints at a more action-packed new season that fans have eagerly anticipated. With winter approaching once again, it seems fans will be tested in their patience yet again.

You can currently stream seasons 1 and 2 of “House of the Dragon” on Max. If HBO’s plan remains unchanged, the series will end with season 4, which might not be released until 2028.
