MAX (soon-to-be HBO MAX) has a rich history when it comes to its animated series offerings. Over time, Warner Bros. has removed some of the most popular shows from their lineup, such as Teen Titans, Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, Static Shock, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, among others. In a twist, MAX is now parting ways with one of Cartoon Network’s biggest original hits, causing a stir among fans on social media. Although some of the departed series may eventually appear on other streaming platforms like Netflix or Tubi, it seems that Powerpuff Girls enthusiasts will need to search elsewhere as MAX has lost the rights to the show.
It seems that as of May 26th, MAX has stopped streaming “The Powerpuff Girls” series, which is a significant loss for the service that was previously known for its major animation offerings. Regrettably, Warner Bros Discovery hasn’t issued an official statement on this matter at the time of writing, causing speculation about potential implications for other beloved Cartoon Network shows. In the recent past, MAX has also lost popular series such as “The Flintstones,” “The Smurfs,” “Tom and Jerry,” “Be Cool,” “Scooby-Doo!”, and “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?”. Unfortunately, it looks like more series might be removed in 2025.
What Else Might MAX Lose?
This year, a report revealed various shows whose licenses with MAX were due to end at some point this year. Although many of the mentioned series have been removed from the platform, it remains unclear whether the following properties will also be terminated or manage to avoid cancellation.
