As a seasoned gamer and avid comic book fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for HBO’s upcoming series, Lanterns! With such a star-studded cast and a creative team that’s nothing short of legendary, this reimagining of DC’s Green Lantern mythology is shaping up to be a game-changer.

In the upcoming HBO drama titled “Lanterns,” Poorna Jagannathan from “Never Have I Ever” joins the cast in a substantial recurring part. This series, which offers a fresh take on DC’s renowned Green Lantern lore, boasts an impressive roster of talent, including Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, and Garret Dillahunt, as reported by “Deadline.

In this rephrased version, the eight-episode series is a captivating tale conceived by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. It focuses on a compelling storyline revolving around two celestial peacekeepers. The narrative unfolds as novice Green Lantern John Stewart (Pierre) and seasoned officer Hal Jordan (Chandler) find themselves embroiled in a mystifying investigation after a murder takes place in the heart of America.

In this production, Jagannathan will embody Zoe, a woman who exudes an air of natural self-assurance and grace in all situations, even those where she is the center of attention. She holds her own among the powerful men surrounding her, demonstrating both composure and cunning. As reported by industry sources, Zoe may develop romantic feelings for John Stewart’s character, while Macdonald’s Sheriff Kerry will form a relationship with Chandler’s Hal Jordan. Dillahunt completes the cast as William Macon, portraying a contemporary cowboy.

This production showcases a powerhouse of creative talent off-screen. Emmy-nominee Mundy, famed for “True Detective: Night Country” and “Ozark,” takes on the role of showrunner. Simultaneously, Emmy-winner Lindelof (“Watchmen,” “The Leftovers”) and Eisner Award laureate King (“Mister Miracle,” “Supergirl”) are collaborating as co-writers and executive producers. Director James Hawes will oversee the direction of the initial two episodes.

Casey Bloys, head of HBO and Max Content, expressed great enthusiasm about the project, saying at its launch, “We’re thrilled to be working with Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof again alongside Tom as they bring a fresh perspective to DC’s Green Lantern. This series aligns perfectly with James [Gunn] and Peter’s [Safran] plans for the DC Universe, marking an exciting new chapter in its history.

The show, titled “Lanterns,” is a joint production by HBO, Warner Bros Television, and DC Studios. Jagannathan’s involvement was made possible due to the frequent nature of her role, enabling her to simultaneously work on this project and maintain her position in Onyx Collective’s upcoming comedy series on Hulu, “Deli Boys.” As reported by Deadline, she has also been seen recently in Apple’s production, “Wolfs.” The release date for “Lanterns” is still undisclosed.
