HBO’s The Last of Us Sees a Dramatic Decline in Season 2 Finale Viewers

In simpler terms, about half as many viewers who finished watching Season 1’s conclusion on HBO continued to tune in for the Season 2 finale of The Last of Us.

Based on The Wrap’s report, the final episode drew approximately 3.7 million viewers across all platforms, which is significantly less than its predecessor that garnered 8.2 million viewers. Noteworthy, the episode was broadcast during a lengthy holiday period.

HBO anticipates a substantial increase in audience numbers in the upcoming days, and it’s worth noting that each episode of Season 2 has drawn approximately 37 million viewers worldwide – a truly impressive figure.

The response from critics has been somewhat divided in this latest release, but it’s important to note that the series maintains a high score of 94 on Rotten Tomatoes. However, we’ve often found that the structural changes made to the show have diminished some of the most impactful scenes from the original game.

Despite this, production on Season 3 is underway, featuring Kaitlyn Dever prominently as Abby. It will be intriguing to observe if viewers will continue their interest in the series now that Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel, is no longer present.
