Following its successful run in cinemas a couple of months ago, “Heart Eyes” has found a new lease of life on Netflix, drawing in a fresh wave of viewers. This slasher/rom-com hybrid has been a consistent feature in the Netflix Top 10 since its debut last week, suggesting that many are encountering the film for the first time. Naturally, speculations about a sequel have started to circulate among the audience, much like those who watched it on the big screen in February.
Although Sony hasn’t confirmed a sequel as of now, director Josh Ruben has shared potential concepts for “Heart Eyes 2“, if the chance arises. It seems that Ruben hinted towards the franchise’s future in the original “Heart Eyes”, but it may require a second watch to fully grasp all the details.

In act three of the movie “Heart Eyes“, it’s unveiled that the Heart Eyes Killer has two faces behind the mask – Jeanine Shaw, played by Jordana Brewster, and David, portrayed by Yoson An. Unbeknownst to everyone, they were not only secret lovers but also a duo of serial killers. On Valentine’s Day, this pair had been traveling to various cities, targeting and eliminating couples in love. They confide their entire sordid tale and twisted reasons to Ally (Olivia Holt), but before she and Jay (Mason Gooding) could listen further, they put a stop to the deadly duo.
If the Heart Eyes killers have been killed off, then where does that leave room for a sequel? While a follow-up film could potentially focus on a new copycat emerging, similar to the Scream series, there’s an intriguing aspect of Shaw and David’s detailed explanation that suggests another possible killer might be lurking.
In one of the Heart Eyes Killer’s attacks, it was discovered that a third character, initially hidden behind a mask, was involved. This individual was briefly part of the dynamic between Shaw and David, but they were dismissed as just a casual relationship. However, this revelation suggests that someone who is well-versed in the Heart Eyes Killer’s motivations and past, and is not afraid to end lives, remains at large and poses an ongoing threat.
In the realm of Heart Eyes universe, there’s a third lethal entity lurking around, and it’s quite possible that we’ve crossed paths with them before.
Who Is the Third Heart Eyes Killer?
One intriguing possibility for the third member of the sinister assassination team in “Heart Eyes” could be Detective Zeke Hobbs (played by Devon Sawa). You might recall that Hobbs appears to meet his end during the Heart Eyes Killer’s raid on the police station, but the audience never witnesses a clear death scene. This omission is often an indication of a character’s potential resurfacing in the future.
From the start of the film, it’s apparent that Hobbs had harbored romantic feelings for Shaw over a prolonged period, hinted by their early discussions about dating platforms. Intriguingly, in their dialogues regarding their enigmatic third party, Shaw and David seem to imply that this individual is preoccupied with their relationship, yet not quite at the same level as themselves.
Truthfully, isn’t it intriguing to imagine Devon Sawa reprising his role as the antagonist? After all, he’s already earned legendary status within this genre, and watching him delve into a darker, more sinister character would undoubtedly be an exciting spectacle.
