Naya Rivera’s son Josey is keeping her memory alive through music.
Approximately five years following his ex-wife’s drowning accident at age 33, Ryan Dorsey revealed that their 9-year-old child has been honoring the deceased Glee star by learning to play the piano.
On Good Morning America, I shared my thoughts, saying, “I believe your mother would encourage you to engage in playtime,” and added, “She’s always keeping an eye on you.
To clarify, the individual in question, who was wedded to an actress from the Royal Family from 2014 to 2018 and is 41 years old, shared that piano lessons were among the few things Naya wished she hadn’t given up. Despite this, she left a lasting impression on those close to her as well as in her acting roles, an impact that remains vibrant.
The former star of Justified expressed gratitude that he remains remembered by his mom. Fortunately, his mother was a television personality, ensuring her memory will continue to thrive.
Although Naya’s love for her family remains etched in our memories, Ryan finds himself pondering about a different scenario: What might have transpired if he had been aboard the boat alongside her and Josey during her passing.
He expressed his thoughts, saying, “I believe we all would have dived in. A part of me feels I could have turned the situation around. But another part wonders if something unexpected with the undercurrents occurred, perhaps neither of us would have survived. And, unfortunately, that leaves Josey without both parents.
Even though he’s quite young, Josey too grapples with the burden of regret for not being able to rescue his mom during their tragic day together.
In a recent conversation with People, Ryan explained that he’s repeatedly heard this: “He claims he was searching for a life raft, but there was a rope nearby, yet a large spider was on it. He was petrified to grab it.” Ryan continues, ‘I constantly remind him, ‘Dude, that rope wouldn’t have reached far enough.’ It seems that incident still haunts him because he believes he could have rescued her if only he hadn’t been afraid.’
Despite the challenging years they’ve endured, the ‘Big Sky’ actor expressed that his son remained an unwavering beacon of positivity during those tough times.
“He starts his day cheerful and full of vigor,” he exclaimed enthusiastically. “My goal is to be an outstanding parent, nurturing a fine young boy. He provides the motivation I need to continue living my life meaningfully.

Naya Rivera’s former partner, Ryan Dorsey, recently posted a picture of the deceased actress and their sole child, which he shared about two weeks following her tragic drowning during a boating adventure with the son.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Ryan expressed that the situation was deeply unfair and hard to put into words; it had left an unfillable void in everyone’s hearts. He found it difficult to accept this as his new reality, questioning if he would ever truly believe it. Just yesterday, they were all enjoying time together, swimming with Josey – now life just doesn’t seem fair.
He went on to say, ‘I can’t find the right words… I’m grateful for our moments and the path that led us to each other, creating the sweetest, kindest, bright little boy we could ever dream of. I recall times when you would tell me, ‘Ryan, please stop snapping!’ Haha. It’s a good thing I didn’t listen to you because now Josey will have hundreds, if not thousands, of snaps and videos that remind him of his momma’s love for him, our fun-filled times together as he grew up. Life may bring good times and bad, but with Josey, the hardships become a bit easier knowing a piece of you will always be with us. He won’t forget his roots. We miss you. We will forever cherish you. Love you Meep.’
