Seven notable figures, each hailing from distinct fields, have begun an intriguing television program where they undertake a challenging 300-kilometer trek across the Austrian and Swiss Alps.
Over the course of three episodes, a group of famous pilgrims, including Jay McGuiness, Helen Lederer, Harry Clark, Daliso Chaponda, Jeff Brazier, Stef Reid, and Nelufar Hedayat, will embark on a journey where they explore each other’s faiths and personal lives. This experience turned out to be an intensely emotional undertaking for all involved.
In a Q&A session preceding the new series, comedian Helen Lederer shared an emotional behind-the-scenes incident. This event, which was not shown on screen, moved the production team to tears as they navigated their mountainous travels in the Alps.
“We’re going into a place [where] you have to be so respectful, but just real,” she explained.
Initially, there were sobs, followed by my own tears, and it seemed as if everyone else was weeping too. It appears that the entire crew was in tears. Indeed, they were shedding tears, which led us all to do the same.

Accompanying the seven celebrities were numerous members of the film crew who trailed them during their journey, much like how it works on travel series such as Pilgrimage, where they too embark on their own journeys.
Journalist Nelufar Hedayat noted: “During our journey, many individuals joined us who, I believe, each embarked on their own smaller adventures. The pilgrimage, in essence, is like a massive carnival or traveling show, moving from one location to another.
On many occasions, Hedayat discovered moments where everyone seemed to be in harmony, effortlessly aligning with their activities.
There was an extraordinary sense of unity among strangers, a feeling that was quite profound to me. It seemed as if we were effortlessly accomplishing our task and crafting something unique together – something unexpected and exciting.
For Lederer, it was the stories told by the other pilgrims that made her the most emotional.
She mentioned that her journey as a pilgrim was at times emotional. Sharing tales with fellow travelers about their personal experiences and escaping the routine of daily life allowed us to connect deeper. The consistent pace of walking seemed to lessen barriers, and we reached our individual ‘purposes’ more swiftly.
She remembered conversing with fellow traveler Jay McGuiness regarding the demise of his companion Tom Parker, an encounter she deemed as profoundly moving, an emotion she hadn’t anticipated experiencing during the course of the journey.
