Hellboy Creator Admits He's Had "Mixed Feelings" About Previous Adaptations Before The Crooked Man

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for comic book adaptations, I must say that my anticipation for Hellboy: The Crooked Man is at an all-time high! With Mike Mignola, the mastermind behind the original source material, involved from the get-go, it feels like we’re finally getting the faithful adaptation we’ve been yearning for.

Mike Mignola, renowned comic book artist behind Hellboy, asserts that the latest film adaptation is the most authentic rendition of the original work yet. The upcoming movie titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man will hit UK screens in September, with a US release to follow later this year. Mignola commends the movie for its adherence to the source material, expressing satisfaction that he was part of the project from the outset, contrasting this experience with previous adaptations where his input came during later stages. In some instances, elements he disapproved of were already incorporated before he had an opportunity to voice his concerns.

In the original comic, Hellboy travels to the Appalachian region, a place filled with mysterious happenings, witches, and the infamous Crooked Man – a supposed supernatural being.

Frequently, I found myself joining projects where the parts had already been assembled by someone else in a manner that wasn’t quite cohesive, according to Mignola to GamesRadar. However, this time around, I was able to declare, “We’re focusing on The Crooked Man, we’ll stay true to the story.” We decided to flesh out some background details for the story. To avoid creating new elements from scratch, we took inspiration from another tale instead.

Mike Mignola often expresses his fondness for certain scenes in The Crooked Man from the entire Hellboy series, and he’s eager for fans to witness it. However, it’s not a direct adaptation as they needed to incorporate elements from other Hellboy stories to fit the timeline.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but reminisce about an unforgettable scene in the game that left me spellbound. In that instant, I found myself thinking, “Will they enhance this moment with some amazing visuals?” It was such a serene, understated scene. It could have been easily overlooked, yet it remained intact throughout the entire experience.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled about my upcoming role in “Hellboy: The Crooked Man.” Joining me on this supernatural adventure will be Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Joseph Marcell, Leah McNamara, Hannah Margetson, and Martin Bassindale. This spine-tingling tale is brought to you by Millennium Films and set for release by Ketchup Entertainment. The script was co-written by Bryan Taylor, Mignola, and Christopher Golden, ensuring a chilling experience that’s true to the Hellboy legacy.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set for release later this year.
