Hellboy: The Crooked Man Rating Confirmed

Hellboy: The Crooked Man Rating Confirmed

As a long-time fan of the Hellboy comics, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming R-rated film, “Hellboy: The Crooked Man.” Based on the MPAA rating and Mignola’s description, it seems we’re in for a true horror experience.

The upcoming “Hellboy” movie, produced by Millenium, hasn’t announced a definite release date just yet. However, it’s clear that this new installment featuring David Harbour as the titular character will carry an R rating. The MPAA has already rated “Hellboy: The Crooked Man,” starring Jack Kesy, with an R for “violence, language, and nudity.” This aligns with the graphic source material from the comics, where Hellboy confronts demonic beings in Appalachia, pushing the boundaries of what’s appropriate.

As a longtime fan of comic books and graphic novels, I’ve been following Mike Mignola’s work for years. His creation of Hellboy is one of my all-time favorites, with its unique blend of horror and action elements that keeps me on the edge of my seat. So when Mignola recently teased that the upcoming film adaptation would be a “true horror movie through and through,” I was both excited and intrigued.

Mignola shared with Variety last year that his plan was to create a horror film for the next Hellboy installment. After reading the latest screenplay the day prior, he confirmed it as an R-rated script, meeting his expectation of a terrifying Hellboy story. Despite Taylor not being known for horror directing, Mignona mentioned that the previous two Hellboy films under horror directors failed to capture the horror genre.

He remarked, “We’ve long advocated for a compact Hellboy film adaptation. My preferred choice is ‘The Crooked Man,’ an exceptional tale I penned. Richly illustrated by Richard Corben, this narrative boasts a captivating plot with minimal characters. There was consensus from the outset: ‘Let’s go for this one.’ From a financial perspective, it’s an advantageous project as it doesn’t entail an extensive cast or grandiose themes. Instead, it offers a subtle, eerie folk horror experience.”

In the film “Hellboy: The Crooked Man,” Jack Kesy takes on the lead character. Joining him are Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Joseph Marcell, Leah McNamara, Hannah Margetson, and Martin Bassindale. This production is brought to you by Millennium Films, with distribution handled by Ketchup Entertainment. Bryan Taylor, Mignola, and Christopher Golden collaborated on the scriptwriting process.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set for release later this year.
