Helldivers 2 players are in the middle of a wild new ARG that’s doubtlessly teasing a new update, and you can help solve it

After the contentious unveiling of Warbond battle pass for Masters of Ceremony in the latest update, fans of Arrowhead Game Studios’ acclaimed cooperative shooter Helldivers 2 are now immersed in an extensive alternative reality game (ARG), which is actively unfolding at present.

Today’s ARG began with an unexpected live stream titled “STATION-81 // OFFLINE _ [ REBOOT ],” showcasing a real-time feed of a Super Earth control center. In addition, a new STATION-81 account was created on Twitter, all moderators in the Helldivers 2 Discord were renamed as “SATCOM#X” (with X being a unique number), and three new channels, “s81-satcom,” “s81-input,” and “s81-output,” have been added within the Discord. You’re invited to join this Discord community of Helldivers and collaborate on solving the upcoming puzzle (details to follow soon).

To date, the ARG (Alternate Reality Game) has been advanced by players inputting codes or commands collectively through a communication channel, then examining the output channel and live feed to verify if their inputs are correct and see what actions they trigger. For instance, this morning, fans observed that the profile pictures of the newly named moderators showed Braille codes, and these numbers were employed to “sign in” or access the terminal.

Over the course of the day, we’ve been gradually unraveling the functions of the terminal and determining necessary actions. As I write this, the console grants us access to four space stations orbiting Super Earth. Earlier, the antenna array on STATION-81 was adjusted slightly, allowing it to collect data that has since been uploaded. This action led to adjustments in one of the four “datablocks.

It appears that an essential aspect of the ARG aims to adjust four datablocks, with each station, including STATION-82, STATION-83, and STATION-84, presumably having one. So far, players haven’t found a way to manipulate these stations’ systems to begin making progress on this goal. Once they can access these stations, though, things should accelerate significantly since the solution for one station might be similar to what’s needed for the others.

Currently, approximately 8-9 thousand individuals are tuned into the livestream, and it’s likely that a significant number of these viewers are also participating in the ARG on Discord. You can contribute to the effort by joining and sending commands through the input channel. Be sure to pay attention to notifications from players indicating which commands have already been ruled invalid.

Regarding what the ARG will disclose upon its completion, I am certain it will focus on the long-anticipated Illuminate invasion, which has been causing player concern since the discovery of unsettling secret messages in March. It appears we may thwart the Illuminate by preventing the catastrophic Meridian Singularity. Perhaps we’ll receive a heads-up about what lies ahead with a fresh new trailer.

As a researcher, I am eagerly anticipating the release of the new Masters of Ceremony Warbond on May 15. Notably, this date coincides with an in-universe gathering dubbed “the light of the Singularity,” which is scheduled two days later. Given my expertise, I find it plausible that this could mark either the day itself or a subsequent day or two following a massive squid invasion force’s emergence through the wormhole, targeting colonies in its vicinity and potentially even Super Earth.

At present, our only course of action is to persistently work on unraveling the mystery surrounding this ARG, and battle it out on the Terminid and Automaton battlegrounds until the Illuminate regain strength.
