What you need to know

  • Razer is expanding its official “Hello Kitty” line of gaming accessories with a new headset, this time the wired Kraken Kitty V2.
  • The adorable white-and-pink headset joins the Kraken Kitty V2 BT in the lineup, with the infamous Hello Kitty ears and pink bow.
  • Priced at $110, there’s only one place to get the new headset, and that’s Target.
  • Razer sent me an early sample to check out, and it’s exactly what I expected: a decent gaming headset that’s cute and fun.

As a seasoned tech enthusiast with a soft spot for all things adorable and gaming-related, I must say that the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 “Hello Kitty and Friends” Edition headset has caught my attention. Having reviewed the Razer Kraken lineup in the past, I can vouch for its popularity and success, and the Kitty spin-off is no exception.

There’s no scarcity of both authorized and unauthorized Hello Kitty merchandise, but when it comes to adorning your PC gaming setup with white-and-pink items, Razer is one of the few options. This renowned gaming company offers an extensive collection of “Hello Kitty and Friends” official accessories and peripherals. Today, they’ve added another product to their family lineup.

The adorable Razer Kraken Kitty V2 “Hello Kitty and Friends” Edition, which complements your current wireless setup, is now on sale exclusively at Target for just $109.99.

Regarding your anticipations about a Hello Kitty version of Razer’s most adorable gaming headset, they likely align with reality, as I received a pre-release model to test personally. However, for Windows Central, I won’t be conducting a comprehensive review of this specific headset, as I’m focusing on the Razer Kraken V4 Pro at the moment. Nonetheless, continue reading for my initial thoughts. If you’re interested in my perspective on the top-tier model in this series, the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro, I have previously reviewed it.

A headset for the Hello Kitty fans, and just the Hello Kitty fans

The Razer Kraken series has been one of the most successful and well-liked lines of gaming headsets throughout history, and the Kitty variant lives up to expectations – it’s essentially the same high-quality headset but with cat-themed ear cups. The newest budget option in the lineup, the Razer Kraken Kitty V2, connects to your gaming PC via a standard USB Type-A cable, which means limited compatibility with other devices (unfortunately).

As an analyst, I’ve observed that while the Hello Kitty edition of this headset boasts a unique aesthetic with its white and pink color scheme, it maintains the same core features as Razer’s standard model. You’ll find their renowned 40mm TriForce drivers at work here, along with a built-in unidirectional microphone. The earcups sport reactive Razer Chroma RGB lighting and are designed for over-ear comfort with leatherette cushions. This headset also benefits from basic surround-sound support thanks to Windows Sonic technology. Despite being a more basic gaming headset, the Hello Kitty edition certainly adds a charming touch to your setup.

The redesigned Razer Kraken Kitty V2 “Hello Kitty and Friends” Edition headset is undeniably charming, as it appears that Razer didn’t merely repaint some of its Kraken Kitty V2 models or simply rebrand the Quartz color scheme. Instead, they seem to have put in thoughtful effort into creating a unique design for this special edition.

Apart from its distinctive ear design and pink ribbon, this headset boasts a charming Hello Kitty theme on the headband padding and additional themed details. Moreover, the box’s design complements the product perfectly, making it ideal for collectors looking to display rather than use the headset.

If I’m evaluating it solely as a Hello Kitty item, I would wholeheartedly approve of it. But, when viewed as a tech product, this gaming headset shares the same issue with other Kraken Kitty models – it seems overpriced. At $110, this model is pricier than the standard Razer Kraken Kitty V2 by $10, which currently sells for only $69.99 at Best Buy, available in both black and pink.

However, the Kraken Kitty V2 doesn’t feel or sound like a $100 headset, especially when brands like HyperX have absolutely killer headsets in this price range. It’s an all-plastic headset (including the headband), has a non-detachable cable and non-retractable microphone, and boasts average sound quality and a below-average microphone. This puts it much closer to what I’d expect from at most a $70 headset (again, the regular Kraken Kitty V2 is on sale right now, hint hint).

If you’re a fan or collector of Hello Kitty, this premium headset might be a worthy investment, given the usual high cost of official merchandise related to Hello Kitty. On the other hand, if you’re just searching for an adorable headset and don’t mind spending a bit more, a new option has emerged: The Razer Kraken Kitty V2 “Hello Kitty and Friends” Edition is now exclusively available at Target for $109.99. Alternatively, if you prefer a wireless experience, you can opt for the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 BT “Hello Kitty and Friends” Edition priced at $139.99 at Best Buy.
