Not only that, another Academy Award winner has signed on for the production, which will be helmed by Chad Stahleski, known for his work on the John Wick series. In this reboot, Cavill will step into the role of the title character, the immortal Scottish warrior Connor, a part previously played by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 film. While “Highlander” has produced several sequels and spin-offs, none have matched the success or affection of the original. The dynamic between their characters could provide a clue about the role Crowe might be playing in “Highlander”. Given their age difference, it’s possible that Crowe will play MacLeod’s mentor, Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, who was played by Sean Connery in the 1986 version of “Highlander”. However, due to his versatile acting skills, Crowe could also take on the role of MacLeod’s adversary, the Kurgan, or even another immortal character, whether from the existing “Highlander” lore or a new creation.

It appears that Stahleski’s grittier, globe-trotting approach, which convinced Cavill to join Highlander, also appealed to Crowe. Earlier, Stahleski mentioned that his focus on exploring MacLeod’s psychology and the torment of living for hundreds of years served as his primary selling point to Cavill.
