This Thanksgiving feast was out of this world—literally.
Sunita “Suni” Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore might be spending a tad more time in space, but these American astronauts remain firmly connected to Earth as they celebrated Thanksgiving aboard the International Space Station. Indeed, they didn’t miss out on festivities—just a space-friendly version of them!
Williams, aged 58, shared with NBC News from the International Space Station on November 27 that they have a selection of dishes reminiscent of Thanksgiving. These include smoked turkey, cranberry sauce, apple cobbler, green beans and mushrooms, and mashed potatoes.

Before they dig into their meal, Williams mentioned she intends to watch Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb host the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Initially, Williams and Wilmore, aged 60, didn’t foresee spending the holidays up in orbit when they arrived at the International Space Station in June. Their brief eight-day space trip unexpectedly turned into a prolonged stay due to various malfunctions their Boeing Starliner spacecraft encountered during the 26-hour journey towards the Station.
