As a seasoned tech enthusiast with a deep-rooted passion for flight simulators, I can barely contain my excitement as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is about to take off! Having spent countless hours soaring through digital skies in previous versions, I’ve grown accustomed to the thrill of virtual aviation.

At long last, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was officially unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023, and it’s about to take off today across various platforms. Whether you’re a PC or Xbox Series X|S user, or even if you game on Xbox Cloud Gaming platforms, this highly anticipated title will be available for your enjoyment later today, depending on your location as the developer, Asobo Studio, aims to roll out the game simultaneously worldwide.

When can I play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?

From my perspective here in the UK, fellow aviation enthusiasts on the East Coast of the US can look forward to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launching at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. West Coasters will get a head start at 8:00 AM Pacific Time. Unfortunately, those of us across the pond in Britain must wait until 4:00 PM Greenwich Mean Time for our turn to download the game, which is surprisingly small at just around 330 megabytes – far short of the estimated full game size of at least 50 gigabytes.

The game heavily depends on cloud-streamed resources to create a digital replica of Earth. This means the data consumption can spike up to 81GB per hour. Regardless of the platform you choose, be prepared for a substantial download during installation and ongoing data usage that might impact any data limits set by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

I plan on keeping hopeful as I wait for the game launch towards the end of my workday, with my fingers crossed for fast download speeds. Though my internet service provider offers approximately 900Mb/s download speed, the rate at which Microsoft can transfer the game files through its servers during the initial release has historically been a limiting factor, leading to slower download speeds in some cases.

I’m excited to share my opinions about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 once it comes out, as I can’t wait to see if it meets the high standards set by my colleague Samuel Tolbert’s early hands-on preview in September. In the meantime, I’ll be preparing one of my preferred flight controllers for a test run on both my Xbox Series X and PC.
