As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for the enigmatic world of the Legacy of Kain series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming graphic novel, Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise. With its talented roster of creators, including Joshua Viola, who has Raziel etched on his very skin, and Matthew Therrien, whose work adorns my walls, this project resonates with a passion that’s hard to ignore.

Bit Bot Media and Crystal Dynamics have given ComicBook an exclusive first glimpse at Matthew Therrien’s variant cover for the upcoming graphic novel, “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise“. Set to launch on Kickstarter soon, this new comic will explore the hidden origins of the popular video game series, “Soul Reaver“. This project is being led by writers Joshua Viola and Angie Hodapp, with artwork by Juan Samu, lettering by Jeremiah Lambert, cover designs by Dave Rapoza and Aaron Lovett, additional artwork by Jonny Bush and Ninja Jo, and overall direction by Bit Bot Media and Crystal Dynamics.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Brent Friedman, known for his work in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Call of Duty”, is leading the narrative guidance, creative direction, and even bringing some fresh, never-before-seen concepts from the untold lore of “Soul Reaver”. This exciting development comes right on time as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original “Soul Reaver” game. The upcoming publication of “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise” will be a significant milestone, marking the first official new “Soul Reaver” narrative since 2003’s “Legacy of Kain: Defiance”.

During my college days, I designed a poster for a class assignment depicting the character “Soul Reaver”. At that time, I had no idea I’d eventually be part of the actual franchise. To this day, Raziel is etched on my arm as a symbol of my strong bond with this world. Rest assured, the project will reflect the same intensity of passion. Collaborating with creatives from Crystal Dynamics and rejoining my previous partners makes this venture an incredibly unique experience.
