A renowned game designer is intensely engrossed in developing the sequel to the action-adventure game Death Stranding, starring Norman Reedus. Although Kojima Productions rarely reveals much about their ongoing work on this project, they are quite open about it on social media. This includes hinting at a fresh trailer for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, which he mentions is being edited by him at the moment.
As a gamer, I’ve been away from my editing desk for a good while now, but during that time, I’ve been visualizing edits while grooving to various tunes on my trusty Walkman. But, let me tell you, the actual execution isn’t quite shaping up as smoothly as I had imagined. Oh, and by the way, peek at this screenshot – it’s a sneak peek of what’s coming next in the trailers for Death Stranding 2!
Kojima remarks, “It’s my first time at the editing desk after a year, and truth be told, I haven’t actually begun editing yet. Instead, I’ve been mentally editing, or ‘air-editing,’ as I listened to potential tracks on my Walkman while walking or flying, likely over a hundred times. Yet, when I finally input everything into the editing system, it’s not exactly lining up with the vision I had.
At the moment, it’s unclear when exactly the trailer for Death Stranding 2 will be released. Given Kojima’s history of showcasing his games at PlayStation’s State of Play events, there’s a possibility that it might debut during an upcoming presentation this month. However, the presentation itself is only a rumor as of now, so we’ll need to wait for an official announcement before we can confidently predict anything.
As for the tunes that might appear in the upcoming Death Stranding 2 promotional video, it’s still uncertain. However, Kojima often shares his favorite music on social media, ranging from bands like The Cure and CHVRCHES to artists such as Caroline Polachek and This Eternal Decay. His past encounter with Polachek could hint at a possible collaboration between them, though this is merely speculation until the trailer is unveiled. In essence, we won’t truly know which tracks he’ll select for the trailer until it’s released.
At The Game Awards in 2022, we got our first glimpse of Death Stranding 2 with a four-minute trailer. A second trailer was unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play in January 2024, hinting at gameplay and introducing some new characters. Since then, the most substantial information about this upcoming title has come from the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, where Kojima indicated that a release date has been decided internally but couldn’t be announced yet due to unexpected issues.
Enthusiasts were anticipating Kojima to unveil a fresh trailer for his upcoming game at The Game Awards 2024, given his past practice of showcasing his titles during this award ceremony, such as the debut of Death Stranding 2 and the initial glimpse of OD. Nevertheless, the creator’s role was limited to presenting duties and he had no new announcements to share. In a Reddit post, he expressed regret to fans who were hoping for a reveal.
