Hilaria Baldwin Shares Why She Makes Her Kids Visit Cemeteries Often

Hilaria Baldwin is getting candid about her thoughts on death.

She recently opened up about how she takes her kids to cemeteries as a learning experience.

As a devoted parent, I frequently take my children to visit cemeteries. We spend hours there, learning about the history and simply acknowledging that these places are an integral part of life.

She mentioned that she also desires for her and husband Alec Baldwin’s children – Carmen (11), Rafael (10), Leonardo (8), Romeo (7), Eduardo (4), María Lucía (4), and Ilaria (2) – to grasp the concept of death when she eventually passes away.

She clarified that the place held great tranquility too, not fearing death itself, but rather the people who had already passed away.

She expressed, “I wish no one to fear me upon my passing. Therefore, I strive to establish such a bond with them instead.

Since becoming a mother, Hilaria has often pondered over the topic of death, and this thought has frequently resurfaced due to its connection with her concerns. In her words, “Becoming a parent awakened in me a fearful awareness of life’s fragility.

Without a doubt, there has been a significant transformation in Hilaria’s life since she became a parent. When the couple first crossed paths in 2011, Alec (who already had a 29-year-old daughter named Irelyn from his previous marriage with Kim Basinger) admitted that they could not have foreseen all the changes to come.

Alec often playfully remarks to her, “Don’t you think I should be on Geffen’s yacht instead, sipping a cappuccino while reading a book, and maybe dining with Spielberg or someone similar?”, he shared with People in January. Even amidst the tumult, he emphasized, “I wouldn’t trade any of it.

Without a doubt, there’s been quite a transformation in Hilaria’s life since she became a parent. When Alec and she first crossed paths in 2011, it’s safe to say neither of them could have foreseen the changes that were about to unfold. At that time, Alec, who already had a daughter named Irelyn (now 29) from his previous marriage with Kim Basinger, expressed this sentiment.

In an interview with People in January, Alec playfully teased, “Don’t you know where I should be? We should be on Geffen’s yacht, sipping cappuccinos, reading a book, and perhaps dining with Spielberg or others. Yet, amidst all the confusion, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Alec Baldwin shared with the New York Times that he provided his future spouse, Hilaria Thomas, with his contact number after encountering her at Pure Food and Wine in New York City back in February 2011. The couple engaged in a series of missed calls before setting a date for their first dinner together.

That August they enjoyed their first US Open together, one of Alec’s favorite events.

In a glimpse of what was to come, Alec caught a vision of Hilaria attending the 10th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation’s “An Enduring Vision” benefit at Cipriani Wall Street in October 2011. The next month saw them taking their relationship a step further by moving in together.

In 2012, Hilaria went with Alec to the Cannes Film Festival. He reflected, “Since my divorce, I’ve had numerous relationships and pondered a lot about my desires and aspirations. Perhaps I overthought things. I wasn’t truly prepared to take that leap until I encountered Hilaria.

In April 2012, Alec’s rep confirmed to TopMob News that he and Hilaria were engaged.

Hilaria and Ireland Baldwin often share posts on social media expressing their close bond. Initially, Ireland playfully said she would be the flower girl at the wedding, but it turned out that she served as a bridesmaid instead.

On June 30, 2012, the joyous pair exchanged vows surrounded by loved ones at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan. The bride adorned herself in an elegant Amsale gown featuring silk magnolias, while the groom chose a tuxedo from Tom Ford for the occasion.

The couple have seven children: Carmen Gabriela (born August 23, 2013), Rafael Thomas (born June 17, 2015), Leonardo Ángel Charles (born September 12, 2016), Romeo Alejandro David (born May 17, 2018), Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (born September 8, 2020), María Lucía Victoria (born February 25, 2021, through a surrogate), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (born September 22, 2022).

The whole family will be starring on TLC’s The Baldwins, premiering Feb. 23, 2025.
