Hold Your Breath Filmmakers Detail the Development of the Hulu Horror Movie

As a fan who’s seen my fair share of movie delays and setbacks, I can confidently say that the anticipation for Hold Your Breath has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The journey from script to screen for this Hulu original feels like it mirrors the tumultuous lives of its characters.

After a significant time span, the eagerly anticipated Hulu movie titled “Hold Your Breath,” written by Karrie Crouse, is ready to be seen by audiences. Initially, during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, the project was geared up for production. Although Sarah Paulson had already been cast in the lead role, it took another two years before the supporting actors were finalized. The production faced several obstacles reminiscent of the challenges faced by the characters within the story itself. However, despite these delays, Crouse and co-director Will Joines can now share their creation with the world as “Hold Your Breath” premieres on Hulu on October 3rd.

In the 1930s dust storm-ridden Oklahoma, a woman named Sarah Paulson (known for her role in My Best Friend’s Exorcism) believes that a menacing force is endangering her family. Joining her in this film are Amiah Miller and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who you might recognize from The Bear.

Speaking with ComicBook, Crouse described the challenges the production encountered. He admitted that the filming experience was intense due to the harsh outdoor conditions, but he felt it was all worthwhile. Additionally, there was a bout of COVID-19 on set which temporarily halted production.

One standout aspect of the latest movie is the powerful acting by Paulson. Joines shares insights into their experience working alongside the well-loved actor during production.

As a gamer, let me rephrase this in my own words: “Day after day, on every single shot, take, scene, the actress never failed to astound us. We anticipated her to bring Margaret to life magnificently, and she did just that with her strength and the horrifying scenes. Yet, it was more than that; throughout the entire process, she showed an unwavering dedication to embodying Margaret fully, constantly discovering new ways to add depth and complexity to this character’s tension. I don’t think either of us were prepared for the depth she brought to the role – it was truly a delight.

Crouse commented, “I find it captivating not only to witness someone struggling to maintain control, but to see them fighting tooth and nail to keep it. This underscores her acting prowess, as she skillfully portrays internal conflicts and her profound affection for her daughters, which I believe significantly anchored her character. Her emotion radiates powerfully, even without much dialogue.

Hold Your Breath lands in theaters on October 3rd.
